Emergency Purchases

If anyone needs to buy clothes, etc. (I needed sneakers cuz mine unexpectedly lost part of the heel in St. Maarten); there is a Marshall's not too far from port. The free trolley can get you there (I believe it's stop #8) and the prices are good. Our concierge was in there and said all the crew go there to shop. And no foreign transaction fees on the credit card.

There would be no foreign transaction fees as Puerto Rico is U.S. You do not have to declare purchases made in San Juan on your customs declaration.

 

Marshall's has been there for years. The store is very old and not especially clean but we've wandered in a few times.

Good suggestion as many people don't know that Marshalls is so close to the port in OSJ or even in PR. We always stop at Marshalls & CVS when we are there for the day.

We have found lots of bargains at this Marshall's store.

And Puerto Rico has 10 K-Marts in the San Juan area, the closest to the port is off Tollway 22, Calle Kalaf 525, Hato Rey-- about 4-5 miles from the pier as close as I can guess.

There is also a SuperMax grocery store located in OSJ. We purchased drinks and Puerto Rican coffee there recently. It's fairly close to Marshall's. The coffee is great!

Thanks for the info, Poohb. Better to have this tidbit tucked in the back of my mind and not need it, than to need a quick inexpensive place for something and not know where to go! :D
