My Family Time Dining - experience?

Recommended Posts

We are taking our grandchildren on a cruuse for the first time next February.

For those having any experience with My Family Time Dining program, please share your experience with us?

What to do? What not to do?

How shall we tip the child staff? Individually or as a group?

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, anzore.

However, I am asking about My FAMILY Time Dining. A service where children got served first and faster, and then fetched by the child staff to play. The parents can continue dining in MDR.

Not My Time Dining.

We have tried it on the Radiance out of Sydney. Even though we always told the waiters we wanted to use familytime dining it was a bit hit and miss about whether the kids would actually get their meals early enough to be finished before the pick up by the Adventure Ocean staff. Eventually we decided it was not worth the effort however we were probably just a bit unlucky.

As an alternative there was a 'kids dinner' which we had to sign them up for each morning. We would then drop the kids off about 5.30pm to Adventure Ocean and they would be escorted by the staff to dinner up at the windjammer. This worked a lot better for us as the kids enjoyed having dinner with their new friends rather then hanging out with us - and we got some 'free' time also!

All I know is that they want you to have traditional early dining to take part in the program.

I did not like my family time dining. The pickup time usually coincided with the arrival of my entree. It took several minutes to wait for and sign in my son outside the dining room by which time my travel mates would have finished their entree and mine would be cold. I almost collided with waiters who backed up while holding the massive trays with plates on them. I learned to wait until after my entree and possibly dessert and then just run my child up to Adventure Ocean after 7 pm. It made for a much more leisurely dinner.

aronde,

Muchas gracias for your tip about "kids dinner". Great!

No worries! I forgot to mention that when you sign them up you also pick what they will have for dinner (pizza, nuggets, chips etc). They were strict on only taking those who signed up in the morning - I guess so they could have the dinner pre cooked and not have to supervise kids helping themselves around the windjammer. Though on one occasion my son told the adventure ocean lady the pizza was like cardboard and she readily agreed and let him go grab something nicer from the buffet!

We used this service with our 9 yr old grandson in March on the Freedom.

We thought it worked great, and they were not restrictive at all about what he ate, etc.

Our grandson usually wanted an adult entrée, and would order a "quick" app. like shrimp cocktail along with an entrée. Our waiters would bring both right away, which he had time to finish without rushing before the pickup time. At that time, DW would take him to the entrance, and return, usually about the time that our entrée arrived.

BTW, he LOVED Adventure Ocean, and wanted to be there all the time.
