Excursion questions

Recommended Posts

I know that some sell out. Am thinking about waiting until we get onboard to book one or two excursions. I have some OBC that I want to use, and we've already prepaid our tips and speciality dining, so would like to use the OBC for this. Have you done this, or do you think it is too risky to wait until he last minute?

Also, are there any excursions that you would recommend in St. Thomas and/or St. Maarten? Would like to maybe see a little of each place for a few of hours and are not really interested in sitting on the beach, snorkeling, etc. this time around. We are also going Nassau, but we will stay on the ship that day. Have already been there, done the Atlantis thing, etc.

unless the excursion is one where there would be a need to limit the amount of people (i.e. helicopter rides in Alaska), it is usually safe to wait until you are on the ship to book it. They do save some spots on the excursions exactly for that reason since not everyone books on-line. I think you are definitely safe on Caribbean cruises to wait until you get onboard.

Check out Maho Beach in St. Marteen, the planes are pretty cool. The taxi ride is about 35-40 minutes and you get a small tour of the island. No real suggestions for St. Thomas. If you want to go for a walk in Nassau I would recommend walking down to Fish Fry. There are several small restaurants to check out. The conch salad and fritters at a few of these places is pretty good.

There is a little bar called the Bikini Tiki Hut about half way down the beach and is a great place to stop and get a refreshment. It is about a 25-30 minute walk to Fish Fry. Have a great cruise.

I usually wait until I'm onboard unless I know the excursion is very popular or limited and usually sells out.

If you book in advance, does RCI charge in advance? Or does it just appear on your onboard account.

They charge your credit card when you book the excursion or specialty dining restaurant

Thanks, all. There really isn't one particular excursion that we have our hearts set on. Would just like to be able to get around and see something, since this is our first visit to these two places. So I guess I will take a look at what's available, line up a couple choices, and then book as soon as I am onboard.

Seriously consider Godfrey's Tours in St Thomas and Bernard's Tours in St Maarten for an inexpensive tour of each island with established, reputable Tour operators.

I second Godfrey's and Bernard's tours. If you have left over OBC, you can withdraw it in cash from the casino and pay the 5% charge. You will come out ahead - the private tours will be much better and less expensive than the ship's tours.
