Iwant2BatC Posted June 3, 2014 #1 Share Posted June 3, 2014 Has anyone researched an insurance plan that would cover the 10% Holland America doesn't cover with their Platinum Plan? I have already purchased their insurance for an expensive upcoming cruise not realizing that the reason for canceling (even medical) doesn't matter. They still only reimburse 90%. Shmoo here Posted June 3, 2014 #2 Share Posted June 3, 2014 Has anyone researched an insurance plan that would cover the 10% Holland America doesn't cover with their Platinum Plan? When you purchase travel insurance, you can cover whatever (however much) costs you want. Be it $300 or $30,000. It's up to you how much you want to pay, and what coverages you want (trip cancellation/delay, luggage delay/loss, medical/evacuation). We've used http://www.insuremytrip.com/ and https://www.squaremouth.com/ to research policies (both sites are insurance comparison sites where you enter the parameters of what you want covered and they show you several different companies polices that meet your criteria). Another site is http://tripinsurancestore.com/, but we've never used them.
eandj Posted June 3, 2014 #3 Share Posted June 3, 2014 If you cannot cancel the insurance * that you bought thru HAL, call the policy writer and see if they can add some rider for a cost to cover the last 10%. You have to be careful when buying insurance that it meets YOUR needs, not a generic plan offered by a cruiseline or travel agent. By researching, you can find the one that will be closer to what you want. * Most insurance companies allow for a "look over" period so you can cancel after reading all the small print if you want with no penalty. Could be 7-10 days or so. Not sure that will help you...depends on when you ordered it.
Iwant2BatC Posted June 3, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted June 3, 2014 Thanks for the suggestions. It is too late to cancel the HAL Platinum and I am hopeful that some company will write a rider to cover the 10%.
