Help me decide JS or D1 on 5 night cruise?

Recommended Posts

Ok I just booked a 5 night Western cruise and I am confused on what room type to secure for our trip. I like balcony rooms. On this Western the difference between a JS and a D1 is $100 each (total $200). JS has 245 sq and the D1 has 190 sq. I have to remember this is only a 5 night cruise and not a 7 night cruise. I need everyone's opinions. Should I take the D1 and save the $200 or just secure the JS. My husband wants me to save the $$ but I want the nicer room. Please I need your opinions.

Thank you for your guideance.

That's for you & DH to negotiate, I'm afraid. For that small a price difference, we would take the JS even on a 3-night cruise, but we're generally in agreement on that kind of thing.

Ya I know but I want to make sure other people would choose the JS due to the low price or just save the $$. If this was a 7 night cruise I would not even think this but since it's a 5 night cruise that is why I am questioning this.

What is the benefits on choosing the JS. Is this concierge? Does this room has special privileges? This may eliminate my guilt on choosing the larger room due to there is a small difference on the rate.

Thanks again.

Sorry, No concierge for a JS. But... Might want to take the JS just for the extra cruise credit? Just a thought.

Dawna I am new to RCCL. What is "JS just for the extra cruise credit? Can you please explain.

Also you say no concierge. We are on Deck 10 looks like concierge level. No conciege? Oh well.

Besides the extra cruise credit, you also get a walk-in closet (the best!), a bathtub and priority boarding. Go for it...

Would love the bathtub and the walk in closet. We are always complaining about closet space on these cruises.

Now I am not feeling so "guilty" for booking the higher catagory of room.:)

Thanks everyone for your help with my guilt:). I am always booking the higher catagory of room that my dear husband wants me to.

But then you will spoil him, and he won't settle for less!:D

A cruise credit refers to the number of cruises you take to move up the Crown & Anchor Society hierarchy. You are a Gold member after your first cruise, Platinum after 5, Diamond after 10 and Diamond Plus after 24. The perks associated with C&A membership get richer as you move up - Gold gets invited to the past passengers' party, some coupons for 10% discounts on shipboard services, discounts on some merchandise or Ben & Jerry's, casino dollars, etc. Platinum coupons are 15% and there's a Platinum/Diamond event on longer cruises, Diamond coupons are more (I'll know after our first cruise as Diamond level in September).

ANYWAY, if you book a junior suite or higher, you get 2 cruise credits, so you can make it to the next level more quickly. We made Diamond afterr 7 cruises because we usually book the JS.

Enjoy your JS!

No that is me. I have always had balconies and NEVER want to downgrade to a lesser room catagory. I have a feeling I will not be satisfied if this does happen. Husband always wants a lesser room to save $$ and I am the one who looks for the best and spends more then we should:).

Thanks Jean for your description Crown & Anchor Society since I am new to RCCL.

Miny,

I typed & edited all about the Crown & Anchor levels then lost it

Go to Royalcaribbean.com>Crown & Anchor>Benefts and you can see what each level brings you.

For such a minimal amount I would jump on it. Our current upcomming cruise would cost $800 more, that is not worth an additional credit since we will be Platinum our next cruise.

Welcome to Royal Caribbean, you'll love it!!

My husband currently thinks we have the D1 catagory. I am not telling him that I am keeping the JS for the additional $200. I know we were looking at another cruise and he mentioned he wanted the JS but (like yours) it was $800 additional ($400 per person) and it wasnt worth the additional cost of it. I had looked on royalcaribbean and seen the price of this JS unit and determined that I got $809 pp (we are going in soft season 12/9/06) for this unit (D1 was $709pp). I have seen this unit selling up too $2,000 pp (prime time). With being in the hotel industry I know a bargan in I see one. Husband is just looking at the $$ factor (I will tell him we got upgraded and will be perfectly happy;)). Hopefully if we like RCCL and we keep cruising with them we will get lots of benifits with the Crown & Anchor down the line.

Darn its not concierge!!!:(.

Oh well on the positive side we are going cruising (I have to wait until 12/9/06):).

Thanks Dawna for all your help.

Just think going for the JS will put you one credit closer to the concierge lounge you get no matter the cabin at Diamond Level (10th completed credit). In the same boat as you we don't cruise until 9/2006 but it already seems to be going by fast. Booked 6 months ago and only 13 to go!!
