Looking for advice on tours for shark alley. I just found out that ecotours belize does not have enough people thus far to make the trip the first week of July. There is only 2 of us and do not want to charter a private boat. Any info or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Anyone done this tour lately? How was it? Thank you for your help.

I looked into Eco and was told the same thing, had to have 15 people to go. I have looked into others and the one that has good reviews is Belize Exotic Adventures. I am planning to book with them for December. Go to their website and information is there for this excursion. If you look at some other posts here of companies people say not to book with. Please come back and tell us what you decided on.

We did a private with Ivar Marchand 3 weeks ago. There were 5 of us. You could contact him to see if he could combine you with others or you could post on your roll call. Highly recommend him! Our best day of the cruise.

Also, on the tender over we had someone ask if their family could tag along but we were limited to 6. Another couple stopped us when Ivar was walking us to the boat and wanted to join in, but Ivar told them private charter.

Also check out Sea Belize Sports. That was going to be our back up if Ivar was booked.

I booked directly with Caveman Snorkeling Tours, Caye Caulker --- that's his fb page. Found it on tripadvisor. We will take the water taxi to Caye Caulker and have booked a 3 hour private tour with him, just for my husband and me. I'm so excited! It is $200 for 3 hours for 1-4 people. All of the reviews were great! We will be there 2 weeks from tomorrow!

You will LOVE Caye Caulker. My family loved it so much we are planning on a land tour to Belize in 2 years with several days on mainland and the rest on Caye caulker.

The Rainbow restaurant on the water there is GREAT!!!

GoLC,

Can you tell me the price for the private tour with ivar? We may just do that as we really want to go. Thanks for everyone's help!!

I can answer about Ivar. It was $450 for up to 6 people. Included boat, guided snorkels, marine preserve fees and salsa, chips and beverages, water, sodas and rum mixed drinks after being in water. There were 5 of us. Worked out less than cruise excursion would have been and much better.

Mine wasn't with Ivar; ours is with Caveman Snorkel Tours on Caye Caulker. He has a facebook page with his contact information, plus there are many great reviews on tripadvisor. It is $200 for 3 hours for 1-4 people, $50 for each additional for a private tour.

So does he meet you at the pier or do you have to make it over to Caye Caulker by yourself first?

We will take the San Pedro Express water taxi to Caye Caulker. I've already purchased the tickets for that online, so no standing in line for that. 45 minute water taxi ride to CC. He said since we booked as private, we will start whenever we arrive!

Perfect in every way and oh so easy! Got off the ship, walked a very short distance to the water taxi. Easily made the Belize-time 8:00 (tender to mainland was 1 hr earlier.) It helped relieve stress to already have tix ahead of time. About 30-40 minute water taxi ride to Caye Caulker. Caveman met us when we docked and we went to his place to get equipment. He was so pleasant and interesting! Snorkeled out by sharks/rays for 30 minutes or so, then went closer to the reef. He escorted my husband here --- I knew I would hold them back... Then we did drift-snorkeling with his boat. Took us through the split for feeding the tarpons and he found us a sea horse, too! Took the water taxi back to Belize and had plenty of time to shop and not be rushed. Perfect day and would do it again in a heartbeat!

goLC - Thank you for sharing your Caveman review - sounds great and exactly what we are looking for. How did you book the tour and how much did he charge?

His email is cadleh@yahoo.com. His facebook is Caveman Snorkeling Tours Caye Caulker --- lots of nice pics there. Also on tripadvisor; #1 on Caye Caulker. It was $200 for a half day --- for 1 to 6 people, so the per person charge will vary. It was worth $100 per person for the two of us; having his expertise with just the two of us was phenomenal! He always answered my emails promptly because I had a zillion questions, LOL. He will tailor the day to suit your needs.

I am going to Belize in August and have been trying to figure out who and what is the best to get to Shark Ray Alley.

I emailed Ivar Marchand but he is sure taking a long time to respond to my emails. I also emailed Caveman Tours as well today - we'll see how long he takes.

Would sure appreciate anyone else's experience!

Once Ivar took a couple of weeks to get back to me because he was bird watching in Costa Rica, but he did.

Rest of contact with him was prompt and reliable.

We liked the fact he met us at port and dropped off at port.

Harrison Cadle of Caveman Tours responded right away with his tour prices. Ivar did respond to me but he said he only does charters. I asked him what does that mean and he took several days to respond that he only does private charters. I responded that I was interested in a private tour and so far I haven't heard from him back. It seems to take him several days to respond. I like the idea of being picked up from the port. I guess I can only wait and see.

Thanks for coming back with a review. I have snorkeled with stingrays a few times and I am really interested in the shark part of this tour. Did you see many sharks, did they get close to you, did Caveman catch one for you to touch or did he feed them to bring them close to you??? My DH will be with us but does not want to snorkel, can he just stay on the boat?
