Therese2014 Posted June 11, 2014 #1 Share Posted June 11, 2014 Aside from local currency needed for when in port do you need any cash for anything whilst on board the ship?
moonglum Posted June 11, 2014 #2 Share Posted June 11, 2014 Everything will be added to your passcard which will be given to you when you board. Drinks, coffee, tours and anything you buy from the shops are all added. Enjoy
Jenna109 Posted June 11, 2014 #3 Share Posted June 11, 2014 We keep one dollar bills in a drawer for easy access to give when room service is delivered. Otherwise it is nice not to have to carry money round:p

SWORRUB1 Posted June 11, 2014 #5 Share Posted June 11, 2014 (edited) If I have dollars left over can I use them to settle my on board account or does that have to be settled with the Credit card details that I give them on embarkation? Rare cruisestitch Posted June 11, 2014 #6 Share Posted June 11, 2014 Absolutely you can use the leftover dollars to settle part of the account and make up the rest with credit card
junetraveler2014 Posted June 11, 2014 #7 Share Posted June 11, 2014 Aside from local currency needed for when in port do you need any cash for anything whilst on board the ship? We just got off the Summit and this is what we used cash for: Tipping and the casino. For all else we used our seapass card. We did pay off our account with cash before leaving the ship, but that is not necessary. The stores, bars and any other place you bought something, they did not accept cash and you were required to use your sea pass card. They made the ship cash free. Hope this helps
Lsimon Posted June 11, 2014 #8 Share Posted June 11, 2014 If I have dollars left over can I use them to settle my on board account or does that have to be settled with the Credit card details that I give them on embarkation? You can apply any amount of cash even if your account is set up to be settled with a credit card. But do not wait until disembarkation morning. I've done the same thing to use up my Euros at the end of a Transatlantic cruise from Europe to the USA a couple times but the last time I tried to do it on disembarkation morning and they said it was too late as their system was closed out. SWORRUB1 Posted June 11, 2014 #9 Share Posted June 11, 2014 Thanks a lot everyone, will go and get some dollars now and over estimate the usage and then use them to pay some money off the final account. Already have plenty of Euros for the 'Euroland' stops. Will use ATMs in Sweden/Denmark/Russia
cle-guy Posted June 11, 2014 #10 Share Posted June 11, 2014 If I have dollars left over can I use them to settle my on board account or does that have to be settled with the Credit card details that I give them on embarkation? Definitely. I do this when I travel internationally and checking out of hotel, i pay with whatever balance I have left of the foraging money including coin (as currency exchanges don't exchange back coin) and balance to credit card, then no currency conversions fees etc. and smaller credit card bill too ;-) If I have a taxi ride left or something, I keep appropriate amount for that and necessary tips if needed. I always end up with several dollars worth of coin in foreign countries, so it's nice ti dump it at the hotel checkout.
parallax Posted June 11, 2014 #11 Share Posted June 11, 2014 In addition to bringing a reasonable amount of cash, we get out about $50 in singles. We tip the drink servers, bartenders or sommeliers a buck or two when they bring our drinks. While we realize that they are already being tipped, we really appreciate the service that we receive. The level of service is much higher than at the pubs or restaurants where we live. This money is well spent in our mind and definitely does not break the bank. Plus, the bartenders and servers come to recognize us. On our last cruise, we would head to the casino bar in the Summit for an after dinner drink and by the time we got to the bar our drinks were ready because they saw us walking in. bobsfamily Posted June 11, 2014 #12 Share Posted June 11, 2014 Get $2 bills and surprise them... Last cruise every time I handed out the tip I was met with amazement and one even said "Lucky Tip"...
cb at sea Posted June 11, 2014 #13 Share Posted June 11, 2014 Oh, please...don't use $2 bills! No one wants them, and in many countries, they aren't recognized as "legal tender"....give them 2 $1 bills!
cle-guy Posted June 11, 2014 #14 Share Posted June 11, 2014 Oh, please...don't use $2 bills! No one wants them, and in many countries, they aren't recognized as "legal tender"....give them 2 $1 bills! staff can easily exchange with Guest services for singles if they want...not really such a big deal. Then guest services can simply deposit with the rest of their cash next time they make a bank deposit. I know my company's bank deposit slips have a space to fill in the count for 2's just like 1's, 5's, 10's, 20's, 100's and all the various coin denominations. I know I always get a smile when I come across one, and honestly never spend them, keep as souvenirs...I say do give out $2 bills if one want to do so.
