Rotterdam Metro...chip card?

Recommended Posts

I've been Googling around for ways to get from Rotterdam Centraal to the cruise terminal and the Metro seems like the fastest. Unless I'm reading incorrectly, do we need to buy the chip card they mention? We'd only be riding it twice...to and from the cruise terminal and Centraal.

What are the various public transit options, fares and travel times?

Thanks. BTW, just 4 people with carry-ons.

If memory serves me correctly, there is a ticket good for 1 hour on the metro, bus or tram and it costs 3 Euros. There is a metro station at Rotterdam Central station and the station at the pier is about 3 stops away, just down the street from the pier. However, if there are 4 of you, a cab from the station would probably cost about the same with less schlepping of your carry ons.

Although I havenot been to Rotterdam for a while, I am almost sure you need a pin/chip on your card to get tickets.

That's what we did.

Ine,

I'm actually talking about the chip transit cards Rotterdam uses. Not the chip-pin cards that everyone but the US seems to have.

Then you probably mean the OV chipcard for one time use. You need that indeed for public transport.

At the Rotterdam metro station you can buy the 1x 1 hour it 2x 1 hour cards from ticket machines. 1x 1 hour is eur 3.

You will need a cirrus bank card or credit card that has a pin code to pay the transaction at the machine.

Best connection from AMS airport to Rotterdam is the so called Intercity Direct service. It runs twice per our.
