If you buy the Cheers program on the 2nd day, is it $57 cheaper?

Recommended Posts

No. When you purchase Cheers, the drinks you bought on Day 1 will be deleted and you will be charged the daily rate. You must purchase Cheers for every day of the cruise, and everyone over 21 in your cabin must also purchase it.

....unless you sail from Galveston. THe package cannot be purchased on the first day and it will not cover purchases made on the first day due to Texas blue laws.

That is wrong. You don't need to buy it on the first day. You can buy it on the second day and, if you do, any drinks you bought on the first day show up as individual prices on your bill. They are not grandfathered into your cheers account. We bought on the second day on our cruise in February, and will be doing the same thing in August.

This is absolutely not correct.

Any drinks you purchase prior to purchasing the Cheers program will be charged as individual purchases and NOT grandfathered into the program after it's been purchased.......

If you don't purchase Cheers until day 2 then you will only be charged the $57 for day 2 through the end of the cruise.

As a PP said if you sail from Galveston you can only purchase Cheers on day 2 or 3 but not on embarkation day.

I see that the program must be purchased the first or second day of the cruise...just wondering if it is discounted, should we decide to wait until the second day to purchase.

"If you buy the Cheers program on the 2nd day, is it $57 cheaper?"

It depends on which ship you sail on. Different ships have treated this differently.

Our experience also.

FYI: my son and my nephew each bought the Cheers program on the Pride June 1st. They did not require the rest of us to buy it even though we were over 21 and in the same cabins as our kids. My sister's friend had the same experience on the Breeze in February. I am not sure if we lucked out or if they just tell people that so they think they have to (buy it) but in our experience they are not enforcing it (the everyone over 21 rule)

Have you had the program? Yes, it states for the entire cruise, but you can start by buying it on the second day. You can't buy it on the third day, fourth day, etc., and you can't buy it for specific days, but you most certainly DO NOT have to buy it on the first day. Been there, done that.

I noticed when I purchased it that the woman handling it just asked how many adults in the cabin. Of course, I said two, but she had no way of checking at her table what the actual number was. I imagine they check later, but who knows?

Laurie - Cheers wasn't available on my cruise last year. I see you've cruised Carnival plenty so I'll take your word for it; however, I have heard different things from other cruisers so I'm honestly not sure. Maybe different rules by different staff members? I don't know ... but I'm going to ask for sure when I get on board.

Over on the Carnival site this very question was asked several times and the answer from past cruisers was that any drinks purchased on the first night were taken off the bill when Cheers was purchased. However, like I said, I cannot speak from experience.

Yes, any drinks purchased the first day are taken off the bill, if you also purchase the Cheers program the first day. For example, if you're like me and rush to the Lido Deck to enjoy a nice cold margarita after boarding, you pay for it with your S&S card, and maybe a few more. ;)

Then, later that evening after you're settled in, you decide to sign up for the Cheers program. All those drinks you had earlier in the day are taken off your bill and are put into the 15-drink count for the Cheers program for that day.

However, if you don't sign up for the Cheers program until the next day, the drinks consumed on the first day remain on your bill as individual purchases and are not covered by the Cheers program.

You have to see what you are drinking, and the cost of that drink. There a break even point. Like six drinks a day. So if you are going to drink more then six a day including days you are in ports. Then it worth it. There are people who do hit there 15 a day limit. Then it is really worth it.

It's amazing how quickly you get to the breakeven point. I will go for weeks with no alcohol, but when it's party time, I'm ready to participate. My typical day on the last cruise was two glasses of wine at the sea day brunch, a cocktail in the afternoon, a glass of butterscotch schnapps before dinner, two more glasses of wine at dinner, and two or three cocktails after dinner.

I also love the ability to try drinks I've never had before. I had a couple that I didn't like, so after a couple sips, I set them aside and ordered something I did five minutes later, as required. Without Cheers, I would have struggled through a drink I didn't like because I had paid for it.
