Sail Day Cabin and Dinner Question

We are sailing on RC for seven nights. We have dining at 5:30. Our ship sails at 4:30. Will we be allowed in our cabin to change for dinner by then? When are we normally allowed in the cabin? Is there dinner even on the first night? Thanks for your help. This is my second cruise but it has been five years.:confused:

You will be in your cabin before setting sail. Yes, diner is available on the first day of the cruise. Also, if board around 11 or so you will be able to grab lunch. Take a small carry on with swim suit and such and enjoy your first day of your cruise even if it is still in port.

Regardless of the ship or cruise line you are on embarkation usually begins no later than 12:00 ( noon ) your cabin may not be ready immediately but most likely before 2:00. Plenty of time to get to your cabin BEFORE the mandatory muster drill and begin unpacking and laying out your dinner clothes. Muster Always happens no later than 30 minutes prior to sailing so you'll have time to get ready for dinner go up to the upper deck grab your sail-away drink and watch your port fade into the sea. Cabins should be ready by 1pm....the 1st night is VERY casual, as many folks won't have their luggage yet....usually, you do, but it can come to your cabin much later. Make sure you carry on anything of value and anything you will need before dinner!

Happily, you'll normally be able to get to your cabin by 1:30. Your luggage should be there by dinner time.

RCCL is extremely forgiving that first night in the MDR! :)

Yes there will be dinner in the dining room at your set time. The dress code is casual, and no one expects you to unpack and get gussied up to go to dinner on the first night. There is muster drill, finding your cabin, maybe standing and watching sailaway. It all takes time and everybody understands that.

 

This is the one night you can show up in the dining room any way you choose to show up. (Well, actually you can do that any night, but that's another topic). [Ducks and runs for cover.]

Welcome to Cruise Critic.

We always like to get on the ship as soon as possible -- around 11:30 -- thus we get to the pier around 11 AM to go through security and get checked in.

That gives us time to have lunch. Luggage arrives and we unpack.

Since your ship sails at 4:30 -- count on having your lifeboat drill any time between 3:45 and 4:15 - maybe even sooner. That will still give you time to freshen up for dinner.

There have been a number of times we haven't received our luggage before early dining time so pack something in your carry-on or plan on wearing what you boarded in.
