175th Anniversary cruise prices

Am I imagining it or are the quoted prices for the " 3 Queens Together" celebrations cruises for May 25th 2015 in Liverpool, somewhat higher than you would expect under what I would describe as "normal" circumstances.

I understand the interest which this great event will create and would love to be part of it, but truthfully it is Cunard's anniversary - not mine and I can't help but feel that there may be a bit of "creative pricing" in these cruises.

Any views would be appreciated....

Nostalgia sells I think. Cherbourg seems to be another one of the "nostalgia ports" for transatlantic voyages. We checked into costs for the transatlantic that starts from Cherbourg (Oct. 7) and then leaves from Southampton (October 8). Based on the cost per day, the price for the same sheltered balcony cabin grade cabin if leaving from Cherbourg was almost double what it was from Southhampton. Needless to say we booked from Southampton!

Business is business my boy, and if they can sell the higher price with the cachet of being in "the spiritual home of Cunard", they will.

Yup, just like the final voyage of QE2 out of Southampton to Dubai. Sold out worldwide within 20 minutes of release.

  • 4 weeks later...

We got a fairly good deal for the "3 Queens" cruise 2 years ago when they met in Southampton for the first time ( Queen's Jubilee) . We did two weeks in the Baltic on QV, 2 weeks in the Med on QE and 5 days across the channel on QM2. It was a wonderful experience. Friends of ours swapped the QV and QE cruises around to some other places.

We have had a close look at this "3 Queens Anniversary" package - and the actual cruises (portswise) don't appeal that much, so I thought that perhaps I could work out a package for all 3 Queens on our own -- no such luck!!! Cunard has employed an inscrutable Chinaman to organise their itineraries such that there seems to be really only one possible 3 Queens combination this time. :).

It would have been nice -- but !!!!! :(
