winston25 Posted June 17, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 17, 2004 I just called HAL and ordered wines for my July 10th Zaamdam cruise, and was told the price for house wine is now $18 per bottle. I guess that's still less expensive than buying it at the table. [This message was edited by winston25 on 06-17-04 at 08:24 PM.]
travelingmcmahans Posted June 18, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 18, 2004 when we called yesterday they asked what price our price list said, and we told them $14, that's what we got it for. max2937 Posted June 19, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 19, 2004 I just ordered ten bottles for the Amsterdan sailing 15/4/05 out of Valparaiso. $15,USD ea. In the past, we also took our Gin/Tonic on board with us. CAN THIS STILL BE DONE WITHOUT A PROBLEM? Peter and I hope to see you on board. Many thanks, Leslie
Sue's Mom Posted June 19, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 19, 2004 I faxed our order off for 20 bottles yesterday (well there are six of us!)using the form which I had just downloaded from the HAL website. It still showed $14, so I hope we get it at that price.
klheckman Posted June 19, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 19, 2004 I also faxed in an order for two bottles at $14 each. I just checked my visa bill and they charged me $18 each. I have an email into HAL complaining about this. They should update the form, or contact us BEFORE charging us an amount other than what we authorized. Sue's Mom Posted June 19, 2004 #6 Share Posted June 19, 2004 klheckman - I totally agree with you over the amount authorised. What a cheek! Will you have it at $18 per bottle? I suppose we would but it's a bit of a disappointment. Keep us posted, please, I am (naturally)interested in the outcome.
F5Loar Posted June 20, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 20, 2004 $18 for a $3.99 bottle of wine? Sorry I got better sense than that. First the increase in corkage fee so we switched to the cheap house wine and not that hit us for more on that. Now all of a sudden the soda card sounds like a great deal. srpilo Posted June 20, 2004 #8 Share Posted June 20, 2004 I hate to say this but, it appears HAL does monitor this site, because just 10 days ago there was the post about the great deal on wine through "special services", and sure enough once everybody started to show interest... HAL RAISED THE PRICES (same as the cabana's on HMC), so maybe if anybody has any more money saving ideas, or great recomendations... They should just keep them to themselves and save they rest of us some money.. Ummm? No doubt about it, all the gloves are off at HAL, and now its "Anything Goes" when its come to making more money. elmorejj Posted June 20, 2004 #9 Share Posted June 20, 2004 Maybe we should just e mail to each other all of our new bargains we find, if we keep putting them on the boards, they won`t be bargains for long!!!....jean

ekerr19 Posted June 21, 2004 #11 Share Posted June 21, 2004 Watch out jollycruiser... they may start limiting the number of times you can fill the ice bucket! F5 - I agree with you! I have said this before - even $14 for Sutter Home White Zinfandel is ludicrous, let alone $18. I've heard there are some pretty decent wines on this list - but I haven't seen the new list yet. Last time we inquired, most were Walnut Crest, Sutter Home (only white zin) and a few other brands, all retailing for under $10. I don't expect to get wine on board the ship for the same price I'm paying at home, but I would like to see a decent selection at a fair price. Marking up a cheap wine 200-300% and selling it for only $14 a bottle is no bargain in my book. Charliesmom Posted June 21, 2004 #14 Share Posted June 21, 2004 I ordered 3 bottles today. She was quite firm that the price was $18.00 which included a gratuity. I pointed out that $4.00 was not a 15% gratuity. I argued that the website said $14.00. She told me they were working on updating the form. She didn't budge. I did buy them and she said the bottles would be in my room when we arrived, but that we could bring them to the dining room to switch them. F5Loar Posted June 22, 2004 #15 Share Posted June 22, 2004 Actually we got Woodbridge our week but right still $3.99 a bottle at the corner grocery store. I thought $14 including the tip was a gracious plenty. If I am buying it by the bottle retail at $3.99 the ship must be getting it by the gross at $2 a bottle. Now you are down to the price of a bottle of 2buckChuck (Charles Shaw CA Wine). I'm going back to the free tea and water at dinner. 1drifter Posted June 24, 2004 #16 Share Posted June 24, 2004 I ordered 3 bottles of Merlot 2 days ago for our July 3rd cruise. I was quoted $42 and just checked my credit card bill--that's what I was charged! It seems that the price of the wine depends upon who answers the phone when you call. I got lucky--maybe I should try the casino when I board the ship! Now I'm thinking I did not get a confirmation number or any proof that I ordered the wine. Considering the consistancy of the service--should I be worried that I won't get my wine? Shari
Orcrone Posted June 24, 2004 #17 Share Posted June 24, 2004 Perhaps you should call back and ask for them to send you a confirmation. Better safe than sorry.
