Winter holiday cruising

I have been thinking about taking a cruise over Thanksgiving or Christmas. How does the atmosphere differ from non holiday cruises? Does there tend to be more children or seniors? Thank you!

What does having seniors have to do with holiday sailings? There will be tons and loads of kids, though.

The ships are beautifully decorated and many give children a small gift on Christmas day. If you can go the week before Christmas you can save a lot of money. You will have more children during the holidays than at other times.

Remember that nowadays many school districts make it difficult on families with school aged kids to take vacations except during breaks. So the end of December is often the only time a family can go for some itineraries.

 

Retirees don't have that problem for the most part. Even though that doesn't explain the high number of seniors on one of our recent holiday cruises.

On December holiday sailings the ships are decorated and there is definitely a holiday spirit throughout the ship. December holiday cruises tend to command higher prices.

Thanksgiving - not much decorating done for this holiday. But there will be lots of children on board.

Christmas -- ships as a rule are beautifully decorated -- again lots of children.

If you can possibly take a longer cruise that extends over Christmas and New Years, less children.
