Rare vickykay Posted July 15, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 15, 2014 Just wondering is it typical to tip the porter when embarking from a port in England? Thanks. Vicky
Towncar T Posted July 15, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 15, 2014 Just wondering is it typical to tip the porter when embarking from a port in England? Thanks. Vicky Yes it is. A pound per bag will always be gratefully received in my experience. Nobody will be offended if you offer them a tip. :)

Rare John Bull Posted July 15, 2014 #4 Share Posted July 15, 2014 Its not the norm to tip porters on embarkation in Southampton. Bags will be off-loaded from your car at the baggage-drop by drivers and/or porters or off-loaded en-bloc from your bus. Any porter you see will be just the first cog in the system. On disembarkation passengers collect their own bags from the terminal & wheel them through customs & out to their transport. A few porters are available at the luggage collection area in the terminal to take it through to transportation, if you need one its normal to give them a pound or two. Surreyman Posted July 15, 2014 #5 Share Posted July 15, 2014 there is a sign at Southampton dock stating that no tips are required Yes tipping, as discussed elsewhere, is not as common as it is in the states. It will rarely be refused, but is not expected.
