uvasag Posted July 17, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 17, 2014 I know Alaska is iffy weather wise and there is no way to predict the weather. I'm seeing that cruises in Aug. are cheaper than in July. I'm a first time cruise and interested in wild life mainly. Whales/dolphins/otters etc. Would love to see a glacier calving. Which month would bring me better luck ? Glaciers Posted July 17, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 17, 2014 The wildlife you’ve mentioned can be seen anytime during the cruise season, as well as calving glaciers. Selecting an itinerary that includes Glacier Bay will increase your chances of seeing a glacier calving. Margerie Glacier is one of the most active due to the way it flows out over a cliff that was created with the retreat of the Grand Pacific Glacier. Some glaciers are more difficult to get to in the spring due to the accumulation of ice near the face. Usually not the case with Margerie. Wildlife viewing by season.
