DevonianCruiser Posted July 19, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 19, 2014 Hi all On the Jade for two weeks in August (back to back) and have some questions. 1. Internet on ships is quite pricey normally, do they have any deals towards the end of each week? I've sometimes had deals with some cruise lines that are better at the end. Ideally I'd like to buy it for the two whole weeks for all the family but I bet that's very expensive. 2. Can I use my iPad in the cabin for the Internet? 3. I've read that there's a problem with people leaving towels on the sun beds for hours and not using them, is that a big problem on the Jade? We have a pent house suite but I gather theres no area like on the newer ships. Thanks :)
Rare KeithJenner Posted July 19, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 19, 2014 You can use the internet everywhere, on any device (multiple devices can be used on one sign up). I've often found that the signal can be weak on the balcony, but don't know whether that's the case on the Jade. There aren't usually many deals at the end of the week. In fact, you often get extra minutes for signing up at the start. These answers aren't specific to the Jade, which I haven't been on yet. Boarding the same time as you I think. Ilovesailing Posted July 19, 2014 #3 Share Posted July 19, 2014 Can't answer internet questions as we refuse to use any electronic devices while on vacation as we feel it's out time. As for the towel situation the Jade we found was one of the worse for chair hogging for hours. There is a certain ethnic group that seem to think that they own the ship and can do what they want from smoking anywhere outside on the decks to letting there kids run around in the specialty restaurants and they also think that it's ok to have their underage kids gamble as long as the parents are there even after being told NO and that the casino can lose there license. We do print this notice and have used it often and will continue using it. We either wait around to see how long there gone or ask the folks that are sitting near how long the lounges have been empty.

Thanks Keith I've just found on NCL that I can get 250 minutes for $100, do you think I'll get more if I sign up at the beginning? I have $600 or $700 onboard credit for the suite which I don't think can be used for gratuities, so I'll put it to that as well as drinks etc.

Not really fair on people when half the beds are empty, but I've seen it on loads of ships.

I didn't see any other specials over the 7 days. Enjoy your cruise! Edited July 19, 2014 by run2sea

Yes, you will get more minutes free from the embarkation special when buying the larger package.
Rare KeithJenner Posted July 19, 2014 #8 Share Posted July 19, 2014 Yes, you usually get 20 minutes extra if you buy 250 minutes at the start of the cruise. It seems to be a fairly consistent offer fleetwide (at least on the ships I've been on).

Rare KeithJenner Posted July 19, 2014 #11 Share Posted July 19, 2014 There is an Internet promotion for latitude members as well. Sent from my iPhone using Forums Yes, 30 minutes I believe. I think it is instead of the usual 20 minutes rather than on top of it. I've never received it automatically, and haven't bothered chasing it for 10 minutes extra. buckeye82 Posted July 19, 2014 #12 Share Posted July 19, 2014 Didn't have to chase it. My DH always goes to the Internet cafe to set it up and we just tell the person working there we are latitude members. No problem. DH likes to get as much as he's entitled to! Girr Posted July 19, 2014 #13 Share Posted July 19, 2014 Besides buying the internet package, we also find ourselves on port days using the internet off ship to grab some "cheap" wi-fi (normally do our excusion, but in the hour or so before having to be back on ship). We don't mind buying the wi-fi package on board, but get so frustrated at how slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww it can be. So, we find a spot where we can grab a drink and sit back, relax and catch up on our e-mail. If I recall the Athen port even has free wi-fi - quickly noticable by all the people setting around with their pads. ;) If you're wondering where a good deal can be had on land just ask your butler or steward - they'll know.:D Also, on our last Jade cruise we were in an aft cabin and had no problem getting the signal in the cabin or on the balcony - just as already mentioned it was slow (do you remember dial up internet?).
