Just the name Carnival....

We have only been on one Carnival cruise. We had a blast! We just haven't found another cruise with the itinerary and dates since that cruise. We would definitely sail Carnival again.

I have a hard time telling friends not to be scared of "Carnival". Although the name doesn't support this (unless it's a 3-4 day cruise, LOL), it's too bad they get such a bad rap from people who don't know. Would a name change bring more people onboard and/or raise the prices? Two of my friends and I had booked NCL for November but then I came across the Pride and convinced them all around it would be a better choice for us. (They are first-timers) Now I'm hoping we aren't let down. She will be just out of dry dock so it's a win win!!

 

People fear what they do not know anything about. After hearing my wife rave about RCL prior to our Glory cruise in '06, I was somewhat leery of Carnival too. Now I do not know what I was so worried about. Live and learn.

I have my 19th and 20th Carnival cruise booked, but I would never equate Carnival with quality cruising. I sail them simply for the price. In the 10+ years I've sailed Carnival, I have seen many cutbacks, esp. in food and entertainment, as well as rising prices for shorter duration excursions. And Carnival received terrible press for the way they handled the disasters at sea with the Splendor and Triumph.

 

When Carnival changed their policy for solo cruising, I began checking out other lines, and found them to have better food and entertainment than Carnival. Just as people who never sailed Carnival will put forth unfavorable comments about Carnival, there are many Carnival cruisers who put down other lines without ever sailing on them.

 

I didn't know what I was missing and couldn't accurately compare ships until I began sailing other lines.

That's not new. That scorn was attached to the line when I found it in the 80's, and after I cruised. And I was like, "huh?" Got worse when I found you could talk about cruising on line. And they seemed driven to change that till Cahill took over. Now the product tends to resemble the scorn a bit closet.
