jchris50 Posted April 1, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 1, 2004 We are staying near the Rialto Bridge. Does anyone know how much it would cost for a water taxi from the airport versus water but and vaporetta? Thanks. Janet

dbh62ark Posted April 1, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 1, 2004 Hi jchris50, The water taxi from the airport into Venice will cost between $80-120 U.S. depending on where you're going in Venice. The Rialto Bridge is further from the airport than St. Mark's Square, so I would guess the higher end of that range. The water bus and vaporetto option is a fraction of that per person, so it depends on how many you have in that water taxi and how much you want to pay for the experience of arriving via private water taxi. I've done it both ways and would pay to do the private water taxi once but it's not all THAT great. Happy traveling, Donna
jchris50 Posted April 1, 2004 Author #4 Share Posted April 1, 2004 Thanks for the information. I think we will opt for the public bus. Rare wineasmusic Posted April 2, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 2, 2004 There is nothing cooler than tooling into town in a water taxi. The boats are really cool wood with a "room" in back in case its raining or you want to avoid the sun. There is also an open seating area at the very back. I am so glad we did it as it added that "old world" start to our vacation.
karenam Posted April 2, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 2, 2004 How many people with luggage can you fit in a water taxi? I am assuming that the $80-$120 U.S. is for the taxi not apiece. Thanks Karen
Mike Andrews Posted April 2, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 2, 2004 I have never taken a water taxi into Venice,we have always used the Alilaguna service from the Airport, but whichever service you use,the experience of arriving by boat into the heart of Venice is one that will stay with you for a long time. dbh62ark Posted April 2, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 2, 2004 Hi karenam, The size of the water taxis varies, just as vehicular taxis vary (small car vs. van). But you should be able to get at least 4 people with your luggage into the taxi. You will need to agree on the rate with your driver in advance too since they're not really on the meter. The $80-130 would be for the boat and not per person. I've done it both ways and think that the water taxi is nice, but the public transportation boat is nice too; as indicated by Mike, you're going to get great views either way. I think it just depends on your budget and how much you value the experience of arriving via private water taxi. As I said, I think it might be worth it to do it once, but the cost is so high that I don't think the thrill is great enough to do that every time. Better to spend the extra $$ on all that great glass! Happy traveling, Donna

Doris Baker Posted April 2, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 2, 2004 My husband and I will be inVEnice on May 4 and 5. The hotel where we are staying in Venice (Locanda Guffaro) sent me a memo in which he said that the water taxi is expensive, about 80,00 Euros. A car taxi would be abut 5,00 Euro. krobertson Posted April 5, 2004 #12 Share Posted April 5, 2004 My mother & I just got back and we too stayed at the Rialto Bridge. Extremely convenient location. We used the WATER BUS to go everywhere and it was only a few euros. We took a public bus from the airport to Palaza Rome and then the #82 WATER BUS to the Rialto Bridge (3rd stop I belive)

AltaJoe Posted April 11, 2004 #17 Share Posted April 11, 2004 My Venice experience with a water Taxi was this: We took one from the Hotel Cavaletto e Doge Orseolo to the airport. We wanted to make sure we got there in time for our flight. BUT, we also tried to take one to the hotel. However, the water level was too high that day and the taxi would not have been able to get under the bridges. They would have had to have dropped us off at Piazza San Marco. This is the same place the water bus would have let us off for 10% of the cost. For those staying near the Rialto Bridge, I don't think that high water would be a problem, but for those staying deep inside the canals it could be. The great thing about the water Taxi is that it picked us up right at the Hotel's canal door. How cool was that...Very cool! Just like the Venetian nobility during the height of the Republic. My last thought about the water Taxi vs bus is the luggage issue. If you have a lot of luggage, the bus will pose a bit of an inconvenience. Picture yourself taking it onto a NYC bus, but climbing down rather than up. And the bus will be rocking!!! Also, you will be responsible for taking it on and getting it off. Pacific Princess Oct.
