mugtech Posted August 13, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 13, 2014 I received an NCL e-mail yesterday requesting me to call an 800 number with a 5 digit extension. Since my PCC is a 877 number with a 4 digit extension, I did not know who I was calling. In addition, my reservation form for my paid in full 9/13/14 NYC to Canada cruise on the Gem was attached. I was told that they would like to move my cruise back into October or later, but I told them this would not work for us. At that point we were offered a credit to be used within one year for $1080.60, the base amount of our inside cabin fares, on any other cruise, plus the amount I paid in June with my credit card, $1,233, would be credited to my NCL credit card. Also the $250 Cruise Reward used for the deposit, which was good until October 2015, would be used on my 4/19/15 Panama Canal cruise, freeing up the one already on there and it is good until 2017. So I said sure, put the $1,080.60 credit towards my 4/19/15 cruise. By the end of the day the changes appeared on MyNCL, so now for a 19 day cruise our base price for an inside cabin is $675 each plus I have an additional cruise reward listed. The NCL credit card is supposed to be credited this week. When I called I thought maybe they were going to offer me an upgrade, but being paid $1,080.60 to cancel my cruise was too hard to refuse. We plan on going to Canada in September 2015 now. Was wondering if anyone else had received a similar offer. When Delta offered us a direct flight to Venice instead of changing planes in Amsterdam, we were offered a free cab ride from Newark to JFK plus $20 in food vouchers, which bought two sandwiches, plus an additional two hours of airport hanging out. Never heard of NCL doing something like this, but it was a much better deal.
garycarla Posted August 13, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 13, 2014 Your post was a bit hard to read (paragraphs help). Anyways, are you saying that NCL is giving all the money back that you paid for your your fall cruise and ALSO giving you an extra $1,080 to use on another cruise? Or said another way : Cancel your fall cruise and get all your money back, plus we are kicking in an extra $1,080 to spend with us whenever you want. Wow - that is an awesome deal. After all, they only needed to refund your money.

mugtech Posted August 13, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted August 13, 2014 Are they canceling that particular cruise? Not that I know of, I posted the info on the 9/13/14 Gem roll call yesterday and the only response I got was "So does this mean you won't be at the Meet & Greet?" I did have to spend the $1,080 in the next 12 months, no problem This could make me an NCL cheerleader!!
AEckhardt Posted August 13, 2014 #7 Share Posted August 13, 2014 I wonder what would prompt them to offer such a deal.
Steeler Nation At Sea Posted August 13, 2014 #8 Share Posted August 13, 2014 They must have oversold your sailing. Great for you! Good attitude about having to cancel, too. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk
tel2 Posted August 13, 2014 #9 Share Posted August 13, 2014 All of the the fall New England sailings out of New York are sold out. I wonder how much of it has to do with Harrahs/Caesars taking huge blocks on Sept 27 and Oct 4 sailings for their Seven Stars events.... We are on the 9/27 sailing Terry

We are on the 9/27 sailing Terry And we were thinking about taking one of these cruises. Guess I should not have waited. The real GOOD NEWS about them being sold out? Nobody will come here whining and carrying on about how the price dropped and they can not get a rebate or OBC. LOL!!!
tel2 Posted August 13, 2014 #11 Share Posted August 13, 2014 I am not too sure how much I will enjoy this - my husband talked me into it. Harrahs took a huge block on our cruise - obviously, they are all gamblers. I have the feeling that the casino - my favorite cruise activity - will be packed all of the time, and finding table space or machines to play will be a challenge.... AEckhardt Posted August 13, 2014 #12 Share Posted August 13, 2014 I just popped on the NCL website. They aren't even listing the September New England cruises on the Gem now. I'm on the last Bahamian cruise of the season, leaving 9/6 and have been looking on occasion for price drops so I search for Sept Gem sailings and then pick my cruise date. It ONLY lists my cruise now. It doesn't even give you an option for the other itinerary.
mugtech Posted August 14, 2014 Author #13 Share Posted August 14, 2014 Just heard from another cruiser on the 9/13/14 Gem roll call saying the cruise is overbooked and she was offered full refund plus $1,100 credit on a future sailing or a free cruise to Bermuda. Since she just cruised Bermuda in April and she had already arranged for non-NCL excursions plus car service, house sitting and pet sitting she had to refuse the deal. I was lucky enough to have procrastinated on doing any of those things, so canceling costs were not a problem for me, will continue such delays in the future. mugtech Posted August 15, 2014 Author #14 Share Posted August 15, 2014 Two more people on the 9/13 Gem cruise roll call were offered and accepted similar deals, including the organizer of the Meet & Greet. That is a total of 4 out of 20 on the roll call list so far.
