Truffle Posted August 15, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 15, 2014 Silly question perhaps but are there any traditions such as "No white before Memorial Day or after Labor Day" as we have in the US (although many no longer follow this) for going into the fall season in April in Australia and New Zealand? Do people start wearing darker colors?
Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted August 16, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 16, 2014 No, we don't have any traditions like that, and you can wear any colours that you like. Incidentally, why do people wear dark colours in winter? OK, if you're outdoors a lot dark colours will absorb the warmth from whatever sun is around so I guess that is practical. And perhaps in the days where streets were muddy dark colours wouldn't show mud splashes as much. Winter always looks so drab with everyone dressed in dark colours, even in Sydney which typically has dry sunny winters. And on rainy days all you see is a sea of black umbrellas. Mine is the exception, I always buy the brightest umbrellas I can find and try to find pretty coloured tops to wear all year round.
