You're welcome! & Oo how did it go overall? You stayed at the Pan Pacific, right? (I don't think it's against the rules ^^)

 

Oh my goodness o_o the maximum I had was an embarkation with us and another ship. Generally, it is a good rule to get to Canada Place and line up at around 10:00am. Otherwise, you're not even going to make it on board for lunch!

 

Besides that, I hope you had a good vacation ;)

 

Yes, it was the Pan Pacific. We usually stay at one of the former Canadian Pacific hotels (now Fairmont) but the rate for a concierge level/club room was outrageous and we found the equivalent room and amenities at the Pan Pacific for $200 per night less. We now have a new favourite hotel in Vancouver:). If we had not started the check-in procedures at 10:00 a.m. it might have taken many hours to get on board. The Noordam sailed an hour and a quarter late because of the delays experienced by hundred of passengers.

 

It was an enjoyable cruise and the weather co-operated. There were many lapses in service but this is not the place to list them and we didn't let that detract from our holiday. Being partial to train travel we took the excursion on the White Pass & Yukon from Skagway. It is similar to the Flaamsbana in Norway but has the benefit of passengers being allowed to stand on open platform coaches - something you can't do on most trains.

We just all just ate and chatted for quite a while. While we chatted, there was this guy that was singing with a guitar. We weren't very fond of his singing, but we all clapped every time he finished a song (so he doesn't feel bad) ^^”. After his last song, he came over to us and the first thing he asked us was “Uhm, do any of you speak English?” Hm. He was trying to sell his CD to us, to which we replied to just smiling and nodding (well, since you think we don't speak English, we'll just pretend not to >_>).

 

 

Apparently my eldest cousin and her parents ordered some chicken wings and salad later that night too!

 

 

 

 

After chatting, we all eventually headed back to our room to turn in for the night!

I've actually heard that many cruisers visiting Vancouver like the Pan Pacific! Regarding the check-in, it is definitely recommended to arrive early, because just as you said, it will take several hours to get on board if you don't.

 

That's good to hear! Ah, yes you encounter those on every cruise. Oh interesting, you did the White Pass? I've never (since we aren't really train people), but I've heard it's lovely (:

 

The White Pass & Yukon excursion is one of the most scenic I have ever been on. It is the equivalent of the Flamsbana in Flaam, Norway - but has the advantage of open platforms at each end of all the coaches. When we first took the excursion (in 1972 - yes, I was very young then;)) the train from the pier went to Bennett and lunch was served in the station. It is possible to do that now but most excursion trains go only to Summit, the US-Canadian border. The excursion to Bennett involved a bus in one direction. I wanted the train both ways, so the shorter excursion was fine.

 

You don't have to like trains in order to appreciate this trip. We saw the highway way below many times and it was obvious we had a more stunning view.

I woke up quite early today (since it was a port day), early enough to eat breakfast! :) Here's today's navigator:

Saw this one our way to Triton's for breakfast!

After deciding on our breakfasts, our server came over with some pastries

When I said no thank you, he jokingly remarked, “But I woke up at 5am to prepare these for you!! D:” LOL

 

 

For my drink, I opted for chocolate milk :P

(Quite nice, very much like a smoothie. 8.0/10)

 

Mango Mountain Hike:

 

 

(Also very smoothie-like. It's kind of weird drinking it with a spoon LOL. 8.2/10)

Three – Egg Omelet:

 

 

(Honestly not a big fan of omelets, but it was nicely packed with lots of ingredients. The hash brown was nice though ^^ 7.5/10)

 

Traditional Eggs Benedict:

 

 

(Quite nice, I actually like my egg yolks leaky, so this was right up my alley! :) I also love hollandaise sauce! 8.3/10)

 

Buckwheat Crêpe:

 

 

(This option felt more healthy haha. The crêpe was a little dry, but still not bad. 7.9/10)

 

The Big Breakfast:

 

 

(This omelet was less dry than the first one, and the caramelized onions were nice 7.9/10)

 

French Toast and Pineapple Stack:

 

 

(This was fabulously sweet. It was a good idea for them to drench the thing in syrup because otherwise, the fruits would've been really sour. 8.2/10)

 

Waffle Sandwich + Mickey Waffle:

 

 

(Evidently, this was my order LOL. I suggest you eat the watermelon first, because otherwise it'll taste sour after eating all of this cream waffle sandwich ^^. The dulce de lêche cream made a good syrup replacement, but while delicious, was a little heavy for breakfast (it was like eating a cake hahaha). I obviously ordered the Mickey waffle just because it's Mickey LOL. As you can probably guess, I was way too full afterwards. 8.3/10)

So apparently everyone decided that we'd eat lunch before getting off the ship, since we docked later than usual. Here was today's lunch menu at Triton's!

 

 

Rings, rings everywhere!

 

 

Crispy Calamari Rings:

 

 

(These were very tasty! Nicely crispy and a nice tangy sauce to go with it. 8.3/10)

 

Tropical Fruit Timbale:

 

 

(Nice fruits, refreshing. 7.8/10)

 

Emmental Leek Quiche:

 

 

(Quite good, imagine it kind of like an egg pie? Slightly spongy, kind of bouncy, but not bad. 7.9/10)

 

Chilled Raspberry Soup:

 

 

(Nice fruit smoothy in a bowl. 8.0/10)

Mulligatawny Soup:

 

 

(Quite interesting, didn't know what mulligatawny soup was, but apparently it was a kind of curry-like soup. Not bad. 8.0/10)

 

Mixed Leaves:

 

 

(Yeah, I don't really care for salads like these. They look so sad and dry LOL. Those chunks that look like dry meat was actually eggplant hahaha. 7.0/10)

 

Ziti Pasta:

 

 

(Pretty good, cooked al dente with chunks of bacon-like meat. 8.3/10)

 

Cajun-Spiced Mahi Mahi Sandwich:

 

 

(Not bad, the fish was a bit dry though. The potato chips and dip were nice. My brother though it was funny was they left it as an open-faced sandwich ^^. 7.9/10)

 

Teriyaki-Marinated Fillet of Cod:

 

 

(Very soft, not dry at all. Nice rice noodle topping ^^ 8.2/10)

(This one was quite nice too, the meat wasn't dry and the potato salad was good. 8.2/10)

 

Pan-Seared Pork Tenderloin:

 

 

(Pleasantly surprised that this one came out looking like chunks of steak :) and nice mushroom sauce too. 8.3/10)

 

Dessert time!

 

Lemon Cheesecake:

 

 

(Quite dense, not bad. Also refreshingly lemony. 7.9/10)

 

Raspberry Crème Brûlée:

 

 

(Didn't know if the crème brûlée itself was supposed to be flavoured, or it was just going to be fruits on top of it. I didn't taste much difference between this one and the normal one, but my mom insisted that it was indeed flavoured. 8.3/10)

 

Chocolate Roulade:

 

 

(I quite liked this chocolatey treat :) It's a normal chocolate roll cake filled with chocolate frosting and coated in chocolate. Fantastic. LOL 8.3/10)

 

Chocolate Brownie from the kid's menu ^^:

 

 

(This was actually pretty good LOL. It was like a cross between a brownie and a cake. 8.4/10)
