My wife and I and 4 friends are sailing on emerald princess on October. 25th to houston. Need a transfer from the port to the Amtrack station to get a train to New Orleans.

Any suggestions?

I don't have any suggestions for transfers as we usually take cabs but I have a question. Have you ever taken the train anywhere in the US before? It is decidedly different from train travel in the UK or Europe.

We have travelled throughout the USA via Amtrack with no problems

Just curious as we have taken the Sunset Limited and enjoyed it. Just as long as you know it will not be on time. Last time it was over 24hours late to Tucson. One notable for the trip from Houston to NOLA is the crossing of the Huey P Long Bridge over the Mississippi River. It is a scary feeling feeling the 1930s overloaded bridge bounce and sway with the train crossing it. Quite the experience entering NOLA. How long does AMTRAK say it takes? It is only 350 miles or about a 5 hour drive in a hire car.

Check out the active Roll Call for your Emerald cruise here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1816011. You'll meet others sailing with you, and there is much discussion on a variety of topics- including transfers, I'm sure. Hate to state the obvious but you may want to ask on the USA forums

A local in the Houston area may be able to point you in the right direction
