Need a transfer from the port to the Amtrack station to get a train to New Orleans.Any suggestions? I don't have any suggestions for transfers as we usually take cabs but I have a question. Have you ever taken the train anywhere in the US before? It is decidedly different from train travel in the UK or Europe.

Jim Avery Posted September 4, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 4, 2014 (edited) We have travelled throughout the USA via Amtrack with no problems Just curious as we have taken the Sunset Limited and enjoyed it. Just as long as you know it will not be on time. Last time it was over 24hours late to Tucson. One notable for the trip from Houston to NOLA is the crossing of the Huey P Long Bridge over the Mississippi River. It is a scary feeling feeling the 1930s overloaded bridge bounce and sway with the train crossing it. Quite the experience entering NOLA. How long does AMTRAK say it takes? It is only 350 miles or about a 5 hour drive in a hire car. Edited September 4, 2014 by Jim Avery

Ilovearsenal Posted September 4, 2014 Author #7 Share Posted September 4, 2014 Train takes about 9 hours. Maybe we'll hire a 6 seater
Emdee Posted September 4, 2014 #8 Share Posted September 4, 2014 Not that I want to break up a good conversation but what has the above to do with PG Cruises? Suggest you post on the Ports boards or your roll call.
Regit Posted September 18, 2014 #9 Share Posted September 18, 2014 If you already have an Amtrak reservation (advised), they provide a bus connection from the port into Houston to board your train. Call Amtrak to set it up.

Hate to state the obvious but you may want to ask on the USA forums http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=414 A local in the Houston area may be able to point you in the right direction
