CAS Perk Changes

Pardon me for the noob question...

This is going to be our 8th cruise (October on the Gem) but first that we booked thru the casino. I know, shame on us for not doing it with the previous ones as we obviously gambled quite a bit and are the red category, but that's for a different topic.

I thought that was the extent of our perks, never asked anything further. I mean i know we priority embarking at the pier and get the drink cards because we're "red" card holders, but there are other perks that come with this? If so, do they tell you, is it listed in your room, should i be calling someone to get a list?

If you have the red card than you should be a "HOT" player and yes there are additional perks. Here is a link to the page that shows the different tier levels and what you will receive at each;

http://www.ncl.com/why-cruise-norwegian/casino-cruise/players-club

You will see that one of the benefits is a dinner for two at a specialty restaurant. There should be a voucher in your cabin when you arrive that you can take to the restaurant of your choice. It does not say on the website but this dinner also comes with a bottle of wine. If your voucher is not in your cabin just speak to the casino host.

Welcome to the world of CAS cruising! :)

I've only taken 2 cruises on NCL. First one was Oct. 2013 because of a free cruise from a local casino and second one was in May 2014 Alaska. Both were booked thru CAS. I'm confused how they do the points to go from Hot to the next level. On the 2nd cruise they took money off our S&S. Does that mean they zeroed out our points and we start at zero again on November Epic cruise? Or even though we got cash back to the S&S that the points will be added to our total for all 3 cruises to possibly move up to a higher tier?

I will give a go at trying to explain this. There are a few people on here who are excellent at this but at least one of them is on a cruise right now. Here goes;

You accumulate points for your play from April 1st to March 31st of the following year. These points determine your Tier level. The tier levels and the amount you have accumulated during that period help determine what comps you are currently entitled to. This also plays a role in how they determine the cabin category you can be comped for a future cruise (or in some cases just a 20% discount).

On each individual cruise the casino hosts will take the points you accumulate during that cruise into consideration to determine what you will be comped on that trip in addition to the tier benefits. The minimum this will be is 1% although it is often more. They could also offer you something else as well such as another dinner at a specialty restaurant etc.

In your particular case it looks like the points you accumulated on your Oct 2013 will no longer be a consideration but the ones from your May 2014 trip will be. The points you earn on your next cruise will just add to that -- helping towards your tier status and future benefits. What money comes off your Epic S & S will be determined by the play on that ship.

I hope that helps a little to explain it. Here is the link to the information on the website;

If you have any more questions just give CAS a call and they can help you out. It wouldn't hurt to call and ask how many points you currently have so that you can better understand where you stand in the various tier levels.

Anyway, we booked the CAS. They "used our comps" and gave us a great deal (atleast I think so), mini suite for me and my wife for $1800 total ($900 per person). On the website, the same 9 day cruise, the mini suites are listed as $2000 per person so this is like half price.

I thought that was the extent of our perks, never asked anything further. Hot gets you a dinner for two in a specialty with a bottle of wine as well as sweets to your cabin, etc. On some ships the host will seek you out, on others you need to approach them to make the restaurant booking.

I know some of this has been discussed in another thread about CAS not booking a 2nd room unless it's also for a CAS player..... but thought I'd start a new thread to let others know it's not just that.

There is no more VIP Amenity Program. That basically included free breakfast/lunch at Cagneys, 1 pk. of smokes or 1 cigar a day, VIP embarkation and you'll see below there is a change in the spa perk.

I'll really miss the breakfast/lunch perk :(

Below is a reply to my e-mail from Cas. However, my PCC, when I called said it was still available......but we know we can't believe half of what we're told on the phone.

Hi Harriet,

We did make some changes. Onboard has limited our choices this year

Most of the things you are asking about was part of what is called the VIP Amenity Program. We will still have the dedicated casino line for embarkation. The VIP has been taken away from us.

We are no longer allowed to offer Cagney’s for lunch and breakfast for any guests except suite We are no longer offering cigarettes.

We are still offering the free dinner.

We still have many great features and have switched thermal spa access to a spa credit so you can decide on whatever treatment you would like.

According to recent posts by Harriet and Beau4, it appears no changes implemented yet, but a big mystery as to what's going to happen to the CAS benefits and when. So, despite the risk of getting frustrated, I just called CAS and was told no changes, but nothing else. Based upon my past experiences of being told different things depending upon who answers the phone, I'm hoping others can provide any other recent details regarding the status of the implementation of any changes.

Wife had a pic of the VIP Plus offer:

ry%3D480

Puts a clear value on what they are taking away from Goldens...

NCL's public relations department just posted in another thread that this offer has been discontinued. Well, that offer didn't last long. I again requested in that thread that this department clarify what's going on with the CAS benefits. It's interesting that there is monitoring and responses from this dept on the thread related to that offer and yet seem to totally ignore requests as to clarification here.

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has any updates on the CAS benefits. I am Golden and am not staying a suite and I leave in less then 2 weeks on the Gem. I will post when I return if I find out anything onboard.

Goldens were eating in Cagney's on the 9/13 cruise but the host said things were changing. They've since cancelled the VIP Plus thing that was probably the reason they did away with the VIP treatment, so my guess would be you'd get what they have been giving the last year for Golden, but who knows.

Will be interested to hear how it goes.

Just off the Breakaway yesterday and all tier perks were still in place (including cigarettes and the spa passes for Golden and VIP). I was told that new changes will be in effect some time after the first of the year, but not even the hosts or casino manager knew what the changes would be).

Thanks for reporting back. It's good to know that at least the old benefits will still be in place at least until the first of next year (maybe) despite the recent changes to the list of benefits on the website and what people were initially told when they called. I had hoped that the NCL Public Relations Department would have responded to my requests for clarification here. But since that Department appears to have totally ignored my requests, it's really appreciated that CC members are keeping us updated. I'm not surprised that the hosts or casino manager are being kept clueless in light of the confusion that occurred during the initial roll out of this program. Can't wait to see what the new changes will be and when they will be implemented. It sounds like there's nothing definitive that's been decided yet. If that is the case, wonder why the changed list of benefits was put on the website which only caused a lot of confusion and anger.
