mattR Posted September 17, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 17, 2014 What would be a nice cheap beach to get to from the ship for a simple beach day?

luvincruising Posted September 18, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 18, 2014 :) After researching, Sapphire Beach is nice and has facilities - dive center for chair and snorkel rental; public restrooms. You just have to pay for the taxi ride to and from - $10.00pp each way from Havensight. The Banana Cabana Beach Grill [by the condo's] and the Sapphire Village Restaurant have (food & drink) runners that work the beach. From another poster, "Off The Grid food truck at the entrance of Sapphire also has good food.". Have fun. Be safe.
blue_water Posted September 18, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 18, 2014 If you want the cheapest and closest option that depends on where you're docked. If docked at Havensight (WICO), Morningstar is a short $5pp taxi each way to the east. If docked at Crown Bay, Lindbergh Bay (aka Emerald Beach) is a short $5pp taxi each way to the west. You can just lay a towel on the sand and take advantage of drinks at the nearby hotel, or opt for renting chairs (and perhaps a drink package at least at Morningstar). Magens Bay is the most-touted beach and attracts crowds but is a nice beach with calm water and amenities, taxi is $8pp each way or so... The nicest beaches are on the East End (Coki, Smith Bay, Sapphire and Secret Harbor), Sapphire is our favorite because we can rent condos right on the beach there. Taxi is $10 - 12 each way depending on your port. Here's a map to show you where the beaches are in relation to the cruise ports - http://www.virginislandsthisweek.com/images/st-thomas-island-road-map.jpg And here's a thread with beach descriptions from many folks which are helpful - http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1993432
