ProjectJack Posted October 2, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 2, 2014 We are a couple in our late 20s (no kids) and thinking of staying in Kemah for a day before our cruise on the Emerald in Feb. We are flying in, so we like the idea of staying close to Bayport cruise terminal, but from what we can find online the rides and attractions on Kemah Boardwalk seem to be geared toward families. Would love to hear from someone in our age range who has stayed in Kemah -- thanks!
mysaddlebred000 Posted October 3, 2014 #2 Share Posted October 3, 2014 We will be going there for the first time but are much older and not taking kids so we would also be interested in knowing. thanks
bptex Posted October 3, 2014 #3 Share Posted October 3, 2014 The boardwalk itself is geared towards families but the area around it is full of bars, restaurants and all the other stuff you'd expect in a tourist area. Kind of like walking down Bourbon St but without all the vomit and strip clubs.
rvsullivan Posted October 5, 2014 #4 Share Posted October 5, 2014 Kemah is one of our favorite spots for any age! There is something/many things for everyone. As others have said, plenty of bars, restaurants etc. The comparison to French Quarter is a very good one. The rowdy atmosphere of NO is not tolerated in Kemah. JimAOk1945 Posted October 5, 2014 #5 Share Posted October 5, 2014 Kemah is a great place to stay for a nice pre-cruise experience. We have stayed at the Kemah Boardwalk in twice. There are great restaurants all within an easy walking distance of each other. The next morning, it's a short drive to the cruise terminal. You may have seen the Kemah Boardwalk website already, but in case you haven't, here is a link to it. http://www.kemahboardwalk.com/ Cruising is a great way to travel. bptex Posted October 21, 2014 #7 Share Posted October 21, 2014 The Space Center is also worth a visit and it's conveniently across the lake.
MJC Posted October 29, 2014 #8 Share Posted October 29, 2014 My husband and I stayed in Kemah for two days this past March (no kids). We enjoyed the restaurants and rode the ferris wheel (nice view from up there). Sometimes there are special events and there will be live music in the center square in the evening. They also had power and sail boat rides that would take you out into the gulf, and fishing trips. It's not very large, but it was fun. FYI there is no beach there. I highly recommend a visit to Space Center Houston, and we had an enjoyable dinner in a restaurant near there full of astronaut memorabilia called Frenchie's Italian Restaurant (if you're into that, which we are). A friend from Texas had told us about it.
