Pre and Post cruise question to/from port of Miami

Recommended Posts

Hi! This will be the first time that my husband and I will be cruising with RCCL and we'll be flying from Ft. Lauderdale airport. We had reserved a room the night before at Holiday inn downtown and one night after cruise in one of the hotels in South Beach. I read on some reviews that taking the taxi is the best transportation in Miami, is this true?? Also, Hotel check -in will not be until 4pm when we disembark, does anyone have ideas on what we can do before check-in time. I want to do some city tours but not sure what to do with our luggage..please help!

Your hotel should allow you to check your luggage with a bellman if you are staying there later that night. Just make sure you take the valuables out. The hotel would not be considered responsible for items you left in luggage checked with them. You can probably put your valuables in a safe deposit box at the hotel if you don't want to bring it with you. The hotel would have some responsibility for the items left in the safe deposit box if something happened to them.

Your cheapest option would be to rent a car from Alamo and keep your luggage with you. They will take you from the airport to the car rental and then from the car terminal to the cruise ship for free on the day you leave. You can pickup in Fort Lauderdale and drop off in Miami their is no drop off fee we do this all the time. When you get off the ship the Alamo bus is their to take you to the car terminal and they will drop you at the airport the next day as well. It works quite well.

Hope this helps you

Renting a car from Alamo [or anyone else] will be cheaper than taxis but you might want to inquire with your hotel about the parking rates first. Another option would be to take a tour that departs from your ship. These tours allow you to bring your luggage on the tourbus (usually in luggage holds underneath) and be dropped off at your hotel afterward. If you can check luggage at your hotel, South Beach is a wonderful place to be on foot. The Art Deco buildings, the great restaurants and the people watching will keep you fully occupied!

Any full service hotel will hold your luggage until your room is ready.

If you're talking about going from Holiday Inn Bayside to the Port of Miami and from the Port of Miami to South Beach, then yes, taxis are fine and the easiest way... If you're talking about getting from FLL to Miami and back from Miami to FLL then a taxi would be extremely expensive and uncomfortable. For that it's usually less expensive to just rent a car, or use either Tri-County Transportation... http://www.floridalimo.com/

Or Larry's Limo... http://www.larryslimo.com/

Both are reliable, reputable local companies.
