Hi there! Welcome to live from Norwegian Getaway! I haven’t done a cruise review, nor have I posted live (or even sort of live) in quite a while, but since I am sailing on a new-to-1125 line, and on an almost-brand new ship, I thought I’d give it a go.

I am not an intrepid reporter, nor do I play one on TV but I have had the pleasure of sailing numerous times on Royal Caribbean, and a couple on Carnival and Celebrity as well. I’ve wanted to try other lines, NCL included, for the past few years, mainly to see what else is out there with regards to ships, itineraries, food, activities and so on.

This year is a milestone birthday for me – 39 again - and I had planned on cruising with lots of family and friends. Of course, we all know what happens to plans, they change. Luckily I was able to work things out and get myself booked on Getaway. I will be accompanied by my Aunt on this voyage; she’s celebrating 39 again also! This will be her 2nd cruise so she’s excited as well.

We will be flying to Fort Lauderdale, and shuttling to the pre cruise hotel in Miami. Currently, we’re on Amtrak from NJ to BWI Airport Rail station! Yes, travel day began at o’dark thirty as usual! Once we arrive at BWI rail station, we’ll hop the shuttle to the airport, check in, grab a fresh cup of coffee at Starbucks and board our Southwest flight to hopefully sunny Florida. I will post as much as I can over the next week, provided that the Ethernet cable is long enough to reach from Miami to the middle of the ocean! There will be images, commentary and at some point, I will endeavor to compare NCL to RCL where such a comparison makes sense.

We did get the UDP,so I may add a couple of food porn pix here and there too! There will be many cups of Lavazza coffee consumed on this voyage, and likely a lot of mojitos as well! I will try and answer any questions you may have, again, based on how the internet works out. Sit back, get comfy and join us as we sail aboard Norwegian Getaway! Wonder if she still has that “new ship smell?”

Megr, I'll be 2 weeks behind you. Intrigued that you took Amtrak to Baltimore for your flight. I've never considered that from Richmond, VA, to get better/cheaper/more direct flights, but it's doable and a great idea!

I think traveling without an entourage will give you more opportunity to spread your wings on the Getaway, and I'll be following your exploits eagerly.

Bon voyage! :)

At long last I am able to relax in at the Courtyard Downtown. Not a bad place, the room is clean, the staff is nice but the hotel could use a little TLC. I read elsewhere that it has been sold and may wind up succumbing to other development , but again, that’s nothing that I know as a fact. But, it was on the internet and EVERYTHIING on the internet has to be true right? I was upgraded to a suite so that’s nice, but I would have loved to be able to see the ships in the AM. In hindsight, I should have kept my booking at the Intercontinental but I got a great rate here via the Marriott “Look No Further” guarantee so you can’t beat a deal!!

Dinner was at a place called La Granja which is sort of a Peruvianesque Boston Market. It was delicious. My Aunt and I split a whole chicken and a couple sides. We could have made do with a half chicken. So much food, and all for about 15 bucks!

To recap the trip down, we hopped Amtrak from NJ to BWI airport rail station, took the free shuttle over to the airport (all of 5 minutes on a nice bus), then enjoyed a nice Americano at Starbucks (hey, I woke up at 4 AM, by 9:45, I was in need of major caffeine.) The Southwest flight was basically uneventful aside from about 30 minutes of bouncing around in the sky. The moment the pilot shut off the Fasten Seatbelt sign, people made a beeline for the necessary rooms! We arrived at FLL a few minutes early, and as I suggested earlier, MJS shuttle phoned me before I had exited the jet bridge! There were a total of 5 passengers in the nice Mercedes mini bus and we made 2 other stops before ours. All in all, we were checked in around 3.

This hotel offers a shuttle to the pier for $5 each, but it doesn’t start until 11 and I want to get to the pier by 10 or so. We will get a taxi and go at our leisure.

After a rather lousy mojito in the satellite office, (it’s Miami, WHY are you using a MIX? Blech!) I headed to CVS for some water, and some wine. Time to relax, and note to 1125, now that you bought ANOTHER pair of sunglasses, can you please try and remember them next time?

I will have more pix tomorrow but I will leave you with a few for now…..good night and thanks for reading!

How funny that you just posted that, because I really hadn't paid attention to the dates in the title, but I just happened to look at the date on my computer, and was thinking hmmmmm... What am I missing. This is Friday right??? LOL!! Can't wait for the rest of your review!!
