Froufie Posted March 17, 2015 #26 Share Posted March 17, 2015 We'll be in Antigua in 4 weeks. We're going to Coconuts and I received a response from them within 24 hours of emailing. We're the only ship in port that day so it should be a nice relaxing beach day. Hi Chris and Cassandra :) Wondering if you could report back on your experience at Coconuts? And are they going to be closed as of April 2015??? thanks ;)
NCTribeFan Posted March 19, 2015 #27 Share Posted March 19, 2015 Hi Froufie! When are you going to be in Antigua? I'm probably cancelling my Bermuda cruise and booking one of the long 1-way Sunshine sailings (11/28 or 12/8); both itineraries stop there. I was thinking I'd like to return to Coconut Beach Club. Had a very pleasant day there in November 2013. Must be sure to stop off at Noreen Phillips' shop near the port. She makes some lovely clothes. Will be in antigua on Nov 6th - but looks like the Coconut Beach Club is a 'no go' - see response received below: Coconut Beach Club closes for major renovations on May 31, 2015. I can suggest: - Beach Limerz (relatively undiscovered by cruise passengers) as a lovely place to spend the day in a very similar price range. - The Grand Royal Antiguan - Lunch and drinks pass is US$ 60.00 and Breakfast, Lunch, Afternoon Tea and drinks pass is US$ 75.00 - Hawksbill by Rex Resorts- Lunch Drinks and Loungers are US$ 40.00 Have some other options I am already investigating - and yes will try and check out the clothes shop if possible :) Edited March 19, 2015 by Froufie
NCTribeFan Posted March 20, 2015 #29 Share Posted March 20, 2015 I'll have to check out the others. The first time we were in Antigua, we did a tour that stopped at Long Bay Beach. Rented chairs and an umbrella. Beach was gorgeous. You could walk way, way out in the shallow, clear water. Last I checked, I think the hotel was closed but the restaurant/beach was still open. But it was quite a distance from the port. With so many nice beaches, I'd be more comfortable with something closer. Must talk to Roll Call people once I get past our tax deadline (working about 65 hrs/week currently).
cathep Posted March 23, 2015 #30 Share Posted March 23, 2015 Look at reviews on TripAdvisor for the Grand Royal Antiguan before you decide to go there. It sounds like it's mainly for Liat's cancelled flights now, so there must be little incentive to maintain it. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g147243-d150680-Reviews-Grand_Royal_Antiguan_Beach_Resort-St_John_s_Saint_John_Parish_Antigua_Antigua_and_Barbu.html
