Slot pull

Thought it might be fun on January Silhouette sailing to participate in Slot Pull.

No experience with organizing a Slot Pull -- I did do a search but came up with some older threads. Any suggestions?

 

The info I got -- I've condensed the threads. WHAT DO YOU THINK?

 

Everyone signs up at Meet & Greet (names are put on a list as paid) and we all put in the same amount -- $15-$21 per person. The money is put in the machine all at once and everyone who contributed takes a turn spinning with someone checking off names as they spin. There is an agreement that winnings are either taken after a certain period of time or play is continued until all gone. Some suggest meeting with casino manager beforehand, using Wheel of Fortune machine $3 spin, having the slot pull right after Meet & Greet or after lunch on a sea day.

 

I'd love to hear your experience with Celebrity. Is there a minimum number of participants? In spite of my 20 cruises I have never participated.

We have over 80 in our Slot Pull, put it on your Roll Call to see if anyone on your cruise cares and wants to join in.

 

Immediately following the Meet and Greet, say 11:30 AM, we will gather together and proceed to the Casino.

 

Never leave the machine up to the Casino Host...No, No, No. That has proven less than uneventful in cruises past.

 

Now, here is how it works.

 

Each person who signs up to participate will bring $21.00 cash to the event. Change can be obtained from the Casino Cage. Then, each person, when it is their turn, will put the $21.00 in the slot machine. The slot machine will be a "Dollar" Machine, with a three dollar Max Bet play. Each person will have 7 Spins at Max Bet ($3.00 per spin). I will maintain the player listing for payouts later, as well as help monitor the counting of the reel spins.

 

At the end of the round (7 Spins), the next person in line will proceed to play. All monies will remain in the machine until the last person spins. At the end of the play, all money then will cashed out and will be divided up equally to participants on the list who have played.

We are going to have 64 or so this coming Tuesday on the Summit. We are doing it at 2pm on a sea day. We are each putting in 15.00 and hoping we hit it rich :-) We are using the wheel of fortune machine I believe.

I've ran several of these, and one of the ground rules -- immediately after we cash out, everyone (or a designee) must stick around to pick up their winnings. I tell everyone that if you don't stick around, I'm not going to chase you down all over the ship to pay you off. I'll just consider your share as a contribution to my martini fund. ;)

 

Additionally, when you divide up the winnings by the number of participants, you always have change involved. For example, you don't want to have to deal with pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters. If the winnings come out to $17.81, everyone gets $17, and the one person who had the highest pull gets all the 81 cents from everybody and makes out. You just gotta keep track of that one pull.

Here's my take as I enjoyed the meet and greet. BUT the slot pull lasted too long as take 30 seconds time how many pulls = wasted cruise time. It got a bit boring, will not do again. Some enjoy, I did not.

Excuse my confusion / ignorance but could you explain further the bit about the highest pull.

 

Do you track all the times / amounts that there are positive / winning results...

Or what

 

I've played the slots, but am confused by what you are trying to say here

That's kinda my point, it's not as easy as "Bill W. It's your turn". It's a lot of unnecessary work on the organizer. Really? Who cares about 81 cents? I figure that should go to the organizer for a drink. In this example 80 cents time 30= $20 bucks.

 

Some care, but I don't. Those are the people that drag the group down. I did mine thinking it was a social event, it really wasn't.

 

Those that enjoy - keep playing! It's just not my style. Regardless, enjoy the cruise.

Will be 'interesting' when a slot pull participant hits a $5-10k jackpot during their $21? play and the participant? then decides THEY won the $, not the slot pull team. The security camera will document their $ into machine, their slot play, their win.

 

Obviously the informal slot group would complain, but the 'facts' would support the person whose money went into the machine when it hit. YIKES Is the casino manager gong to to arbitrate such an informal undocumented group agreement?

 

Next casino visit I'll ask the floor mgr how such a situation would be resolved but I think it would be an unhappy slot pull group, minus one. :rolleyes:

The highest pull -- everyone gets 5 pulls, $3 per pull. First player gets up and on pull #1 he wins $200, then that's the highest pull until another player wins more on any of their 5 pulls. It's easy to track.

 

When I run these, I don't make lists and sign ups and collect money ahead of time. I designate a time/date for the pull and announce it at the Cruise Connections Party. I have everyone meet at "Crush" which is right outside the casino and not used until that evening.

 

I use those 50/50 tickets. They are numbered, so easy to call the first number to the last one. Everyone who shows up pays their $15 and gets two tickets with the same number. One ticket reads "TICKET" and the other one reads 'KEEP THIS COUPON." I then take the money and get large bills from the casino cashier to feed the beast.

 

You present the "TICKET" when it's your turn to pull, and you present the "KEEP THIS COUPON" to pick up your winnings. I let everyone know that if you lose your ticket you don't get to pull or don't get the pay out. Kinda like no ticket, no laundry. :D

 

The only problem I've encountered during these Pulls is the payout and getting enough change to pay everybody. The casino is pretty stingy in giving you a bunch of $1 or $5's.

I think if that happened, there would be an instant mutiny and that person would person would find himself overboard. :eek:

 

I've never had any problems. I set the ground rules ahead of time. Occasionally you'll just have to deal with a bossy person or two but you have to put them in their place.

We have had winnings of close to $4800 and have yet to experience a fellow roll call and slot pull member from Cruise Critic become Ebenezer Scrooge.

 

After almost a year and 250 pages with over 4500 post from 120 or so, we have yet again a wonderful group of Cruise Critic members to get to Meet n Mingle with in a few weeks.

 

I guess the could be a Debbie Downer in the group:rolleyes: but we won't look for the dark side of the moon, just the wonderful reflection across the deep blue water as it slowly swooshes by the side of the ship, and softly lights the top deck as we toast with new and old friends a wonderful day on the open sea.

Linda, all good and fun times take a tad bit of energy, but when the play is over, we have had cruises where we rearranged dinner time to join others we got to know a bit during a activity. Before Bev pkg's became the rage, we have had the casino mgr open up the bar for the group. Others want to be where the energy is!

Yes, preload the machine with all the money up front. You shouldn't have any problems.

Boy, that's an optimist :)! Just a FYI: Cruise ships have an exception that they are not REQUIRED to give a W2G on JACKPOTS of $1,200 or less.

 

So in other words, if you would hit a large jackpot they would but it is obviously rare to win $1,200 on one pull as they typically do not monitor total winnings as there is really no way to know how much was put into the machines. Almost like they don't give them on table games for the same reason.

WALLIE5446 I feel the same way you do... Life is short... It is about having fun, seeing new places, and making new friends. Cruising is a true short cut to all that at one time.

 

Have a great time on your upcoming cruise... Your Roll Call sounds wonderful. Hoping that our one for Bermuda in May builds to be that way too (luckily & happily... We have some familiar fun faces on it already)
