Newbie but not a first-time cruiser

How can that be, you may ask. It's a bit of a slippery slope. As a child, I cruised often with my family on the now-defunct Panama Line (from Cristobal to NYC, later Cristobal to New Orleans). Ten months of age on my first Panama line cruise, 18 on my last. But I had no hand in the planning, date selection or ports of call, stateroom assignment; also no hand in footing the bill. And, the Panama line had combination ships: both passenger and cargo but they weren't freighters. Also, I expect, subsidized by the Panama Canal Company, a tiny subsidiary of the U.S. government.

In January I'll be cruising the seas for the first time as an adult (with the perquisites and responsibilities therefore) aboard the Regent Navigator, in and out of Miami with Western Caribbean ports of call. The first time EVER for Jim who is, I confess, a bit leery about this wild notion of mine. Second cruise aboard Silversea Whisper in November 2015, Barbados-Amazon-Barbados. Third in August 2016 on Azamara Quest, Norwegian Fjords out of and in to Amsterdam.

Thus a newbie am I but not a first-timer.

Welcome to Cruise Critic.

I saw some of your posts on another newbie thread. You have a nice set of cruises planned. We loved our Amazon cruise. Will you go up to Manaus? As we sailed the river, we loved sitting out on the balcony and watching the thunderstorms in the distance.
