Using self service laundry while on board

Having done lots & lots of laundry (one of those carry on only fanatics) I have noted that my biggest issue is arriving with the machines done but not emptied and their 'owners' not around. I will ALWAYS carefully and respectfully empty the 'done' laundry into a basket (on Oceania always have baskets) to do mine. Usually this is the dryer but he happens with washers too.... I note time to be back and arrive back at least 5 minutes head of time - many times the basket of laundry I removed is still sitting there! Where is that elusive launderer I wonder, caught up in the casino??? At the buffet??? I always bring Shout color catcher sheets too, that way I can consolidate colors & works well!

No doubt everyone has noticed that you have to wear a watch on cruise holidays...never do while at home. Timing is critical on board - for almost everything...including getting back to the laundromat on time.

A few of my son's friends were hassling me one day about wearing a watch. They wanted to know why I didn't just use my phone. I replied that I thought we had mostly gotten away from consulting "pocket watches" which is pretty much what they are doing when using their phones.

OK ... here's another newbie question - what is the method of payment in the Princess (specifically Grand Princess) self serve laundries - actual coins, tokens or card ?

...VTX-Al

Take a roll of quarters and use those. If there are token machines or dollar bill changers they may not work. On Royal and Regal I believe you can use your card to get tokens but the older ships such as the Grand you just use quarters.

If you don't have quarters you should be able to get them from the customer service desk.

On the Regal you swipe your card for a token. 1 type of token is used for the washer or dryer. The other is for the soap vending machine. FYI: Wash/dry tokens were $2 on day 1 but went up to $3 each the rest of the cruise. I would check and buy them on the first day even if you don't need to wash anything. Soap was .25 cheaper too

Each floor had 4 washers and 4 dryers, 2 iron boards/irons, wash sink, TV, phone, etc... I would never wait there but just go back to the room. I would leave a note however with my room#, anyone can call my room from the laundry area. I always made it back in time, usually 40 min run time.

The clock app on my smartphone has a very good timer. I'd rather use that than a watch. The timer sounds when the time is up but I'd have to remember to check my watch! ;)

I have never had a problem with it, but I always try and come back right when it is done. It gets busy later in the day, so go early and avoid any issues. I always bring some of those detergent tabs and dryer sheets in my luggage. Also, bring quarters as many times the change machine is empty and you have to go to passenger services for coins.
