Are you allowed to change dining preferences once on board?

We've already booked and paid for a Mexico cruise in November. Some friends just booked thru a travel agent. Neither the TA nor Princess can verify that they will seat us together in traditional dining. If we are not seated together, who can we talk to about re-arranging seat assignments? Or will we be able to change to Anytime Dining once on board?

yes, you can change to anytime dining, but not the other way around.

We have always done "anytime" when on Princess and it works for us...we like the flexibility and the opportunity to meet more people.

enjoy your cruise

As chrysalis said, easy to go from traditional to anytime on board, just not the other way. However, if you have your TA link your booking number to your friend's, it is likely that they will be placed in traditional dining with you (assuming that is what you already have). If that is what you want, it is worth doing. But anytime is still a wonderful choice if you would like that.

If you want to switch to PC dining or attempt to get seated together at traditional dining once on board the ship. You need to see the Maître d' for this. Usually he is stationed in one of the dining rooms at about 2pm-3pm to handle dining "situations". There is usually a listing giving time and location where he can be found in the Platter awaiting you in your cabin when you board. We had to do this on the Star this year and he was very accommodating solving our problem in about 2 minutes flat. Just keep in mind that if you have a large group, the large tables are limited. Make certain that the TA cross references all the booking numbers.

It may not guarantee you will be seated together, but have your TA cross reference your booking numbers. If, when you board, you find you are not seated together speak to the maitre d' as soon as possible. If that too fails it is no problem to switch to Anytime Dining! Hope it all works out for you.
