DAWN-condition of SJ suites?

I have booked the May 29th, 2015 sailing of the DAWN to Bermuda.

We picked SJ 12016. In-Laws have SJ (HC) 12532.

Now I read these reviews the last day or so really putting these SJ's down. Water leaking from the shower door, moldy lifting bathroom tiles, the floor to ceiling windows looking out side leaking real bad in the rain. Light fixtures not working, etc...

Anyone have any recent positive experience in any of these SJ's?

It is still over 6 months for my cruise. I am really thinking of downgrading to a Mini or a standard balcony if these SJ are the crap that some are posting.

I have been on a LOT of cruises and 3 on NCL. I know from experience that NCL is as good a product as the competition. We have sailed RCCL 5 times, Princess 3 times, Carnival, Celebrity and HAL all once. I liked them all, but NCL has kept my business most recently. I know what I am getting with their (NCL) product and like it a lot. I am just concerned with these SJ's. They were not part of the original design and they may need tweeking I guess.

Also, anyone have any idea when the DAWN is due for refurbishment? Last major was in 2011? I know last time on her in June 2014 a lot of carpet was replaced during our cruise in the wee hours of the morning.

We've stayed in 12532 3 times and we are going for our 4th time May 15. Room is new in 2011, or so, we love it, huge 459 Sq ft, no balcony which us fine with us, close to pool, bar and buffet. Love the location. It is noisy Sun thru Tues because there is a pool party weather permitting, but join them !!!

The In-Laws will be happy to know you liked that stateroom enough to book it multiple times. Did the widows leak in the rain?

We were in 12018 ( you got off and we were getting on this year). We had no problems other than the wheel thingy didn't work to let them know to make up room, do not disturb, etc. They had another way to solve that problem.

We loved the SJ suites and would gladly do them again if on the Dawn or Star.

Work crews were replacing window all over on Dawn .

In October there were still many crates of glass in the deck 13 ally .

I will rest easy andstay with 12016 then.

While on the GEM a couple years back they had hellacious leaks in the roof/ceiling of their Spinniker lounge. Similar design ship and The SJ and DOS's are in that location on DAWN. Didn't know if the suites in that location on DAWN ever had those roof/ceiling leaks, since being installed.

We were just in 12008 and yes we had the leaking shower door. We had the same issue last year across in 12506 (I think that's the number) and also on the Star in 12506. I think it's an inherent problem with the design of these showers. Personally, I could do without the tub and have the shower door open into that area. I'd also have a higher threshold into the shower. Once I opened the shower door and had a minor flood.

As for the leaking windows, we had really heavy rain and wind when some people reported leaks.

Not sure when the Dawn is scheduled for serious maintenance but it was reported Kevin Sheehan was recently on board and hopefully he was made aware of the issues on this ship.

Just got back from the 14 days on the Dawn repositioning from Boston to New Orleans. We were in 12010. Our only issue is that two of the big windows fogged up when we got to hot weather. I think the seal must have broken since they are double paned. Shower, drapes etc. were all in good shape. I am assuming that they will fix the windows now that it has been called to their attention. Our butler and concierge were great as was the overall service.

Thank you so much for your perspective. I am booked in 12000 next year and after reading all these negative reviews I was having some major concerns. I guess it really is subjective & we're not a 'tough' crowd. I was actually more concerned about the service than the room condition and you have made me feel better about that!

I had read so many negative reviews about NCL that we almost didn't book the cruise. We decided to "chance" it because we have a status with Harrahs that qualified us for a significant discount if we booked through Casinos at Sea. What a pleasant surprise we got. The crew was truly the friendliest I had ever encountered. No exaggeration, every time we passed a crew member, no matter what their position they smiled and greeted us. We are long time HAL cruisers and occasional Celebrity cruisers and I think NCL is better than both in some areas. The entertainment was vastly superior and the overall mood of the workers was better.

Nothing is ever perfect but I found the NCL employees to willing to go the extra mile to make us happy. One day the other couple that was travelling with us did not get ice delivered to their room after calling room service. They needed it during the hours that their steward was on the afternoon break. When it hadn't arrive after 45 minutes one of them went to the Garden Café and filled a few glasses and took it back to their room. That night at dinner one of the officers came by our table to ask if we had any complaints about anything. Our friends casually mentioned the ice incident but said they really weren't concerned since they were aware that they had called during the afternoon break. The officer insisted on knowing their cabin number and said he would follow up with the supervisor on duty at that time. He said his job was to make sure that everything was done properly all the time. We were most impressed.

We enjoyed the cruise enough that we have already booked the Sun for an 11 day Mexican Riviera next fall and are seriously considering repeating on the Dawn for a 7 day out of New Orleans this spring. (I admit that part of that is an excuse to go back to New Orleans.)

Like you, we are not a 'tough' crowd. I think that makes all things easier and I am sure you will have a wonderful time.
