fstuff1 Posted November 30, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 30, 2014 my land casino gave me another 'free' 7day cruise. this time i'm choosing the Bahamas on the Breakaway. taxes: 135 ncf: 185 total = $320 regular price is $522/person. so this is only costing my land casino $200. and probably less since they probably negotiated lower rates. so why isn't taxes/port fees usually included in these 'free' offers? totalee Posted December 17, 2014 #2 Share Posted December 17, 2014 $185 is the casino rate, that NCF is actually the fare you are paying $185 plus taxes. The land casino probably gets a payout from the boat if you reach a certain level of casino spending.
monkeybone Posted January 6, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 6, 2015 Do other cruise lines charge the same for a casino comp cruise?
totalee Posted January 6, 2015 #4 Share Posted January 6, 2015 No, on a Carnival free cruise you will only pay port fees and tips. I prefer NCL to Carnival, but I just feel ripped off by the NCF fee so I have done 5 Carnival cruises this year and only 1 NCL and the NCL I booked through Casinos at sea which was less expensive than the "Free" cruise I received from Harrah's Cherokee Casino (Part of Caesar's entertainment). Are you sure the regular price wouldn;t then be subject to the port charges and taxes? We ave done a bunch of Carnival freebies and def only pay the mandatory port charges and tax (average $125 pp, depending on itinerary)
3DBeach Posted January 9, 2015 #6 Share Posted January 9, 2015 For my cruise next Jan (so far away) I got the cabin "comped" but paying $310 each for myself and my husband for port fees and taxes. Personally I still think its a great "deal" for us. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
LOVINCRUIZIN Posted January 9, 2015 #7 Share Posted January 9, 2015 Without a doubt! You would be paying those on top of a cruise fare. Value is in the eye of the beholder - and, even if I had to pay for a cruise, I think it's the best vacation bang for the buck

You are assuming the land casino is paying. Bottom line - land casino wants you to come to pick up the certificate and "donate" while you are there. The ship wants you onboard as a known gambler and hopes you will spend more than whatever discount you get to cover their costs.
