Nope not covered. One could try the child ill but you'd have to have a Dr signature and then it's 90% in favor of the company. My banker is the same. A sign on his desk say's, "Give me a chance to say NO!"

Agreed. So if you are running late, have a cheap traffic accident. Hit a pole or something, and make sure you have a police report.

I would imagine just simply breaking down would not cut it either.

Depends what "cancel for any reason" means to that insurance company. Call the underwriter.

Most every policy I have seen specifically excludes a no show, you have to notify the insurer within a certain amount of time before the cruise was set to sail.

I would imagine the OP counts as a no-show.

Maybe a speeding ticket? If you are caught you have a documented report. If you are not then you mght get to port in time. :p

This is more about $ rather than 'two minutes'. Ships can be held if it makes economic sense for the cruise line to do so. Passengers booked on flights through the line are better protected than self bookings. X number of late passengers equals the cost of fuel to travel faster to the next port. Holding a ship of thousands for a few late people is economically foolish. Longshoreman fees are expensive. Dock fees are expensive. Fuel is expensive. Lost casino and ship shop revenue is expensive. Follow the money.

So when we sailed Allure this past February the captain announces at 4:55 that they are making preparations on the bridge for an on-time departure. Three hours later Allure sailed out of Ft. Lauderdale because it was "supposedly" waiting for some late passengers. Try to make sense out of that.

Perhaps those that were late but boarded were Choice-Air passengers and Choice-Air was keeping the ship apprised of where the passengers were and when exactly they'd arrive.
