whimsy7 Posted January 20, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 20, 2015 when we visited Auckland a few years ago, noticed quite a few money changers in the main street. are these services still there? our first port of call is Auckland and I thought I'd wait until we reached Auckland before changing my Australian dollars. many thanks for your replies. MrYellowDuck Posted January 20, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 20, 2015 Yes these business are still there. Do bear in mind that these businesses are not the cheapest places to exchange money unless you have booked in advance. There are several banks in essentially the same location that offer currency exchange. The BNZ is about 2 minutes walk up Queen Street on the left from the waterfront (it's impossible to miss) is one such bank.

Thecat123 Posted January 21, 2015 #4 Share Posted January 21, 2015 What about going to your bank before you leave Aussie to get some Kiwi money and that way you will not have to spend your holiday time worrying about changing money ?
mtn_couple Posted January 21, 2015 #5 Share Posted January 21, 2015 If you're from Australia, your Eftpos or Credit card can simply be used to get NZ money out of an ATM. Check with your bank, most Aussie banks have a partner bank in NZ and charge lower fees. Eg - Commonwealth partners with ASB. Being a CBA customer, it only cost us a few dollars to get money out of ASB ATM machines - MUCH cheaper than using a money exchange place, and they're available 24/7 in many many more locations. whimsy7 Posted March 5, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted March 5, 2015 just back from our cruise to beautiful New Zealand. we had a lovely sunny day in Auckland. there were three ships in port on that day...Voyager of the Seas, Amadea and Aurora. ended up changing our Australian dollars for NZ dollars at one of the money changers in Queen Street...no commission charge. exchange rate for the day was 1 AUD = 1.0354 NZD. for our 1 AUD, we received 1.018 NZD. happy with that rate. many thanks for all your tips.
