livinginyellow Posted January 21, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 21, 2015 Feel free to move this is if it is not allowed - but I was wondering if anyone has done the RCI bus programs from DC to NJ? My boyfriend and I live in Southern VA. We did Baltimore last year, and were actually going to try a Carnival out of the new port in Norfolk, VA this year. Took a look at Carnival's drink program and actually changed our mind because of that - more expensive and a 15 drink limit? No, thank you. We loved, loved, loved Grandeur last year, but found it a little small. By day 6-7 we were a bit bored (and it didn't help that our last port was cancelled). As much as we hope to go on Grandeur again, we don't want to do a longer trip on the ship. We also don't really have the money to fly to Florida, so it's seeming that MD or NJ are our only options. We don't really want to drive to NJ so when I saw the bus program that goes from DC to NJ, I got excited. Has anyone done a bus program before? What is the cost like? Do you think it was worth it? My boyfriend and I would take a bus out of VA up to DC and then try and catch the RCI bus to NJ - do you think that is a possibility with the way the bus system works? Thank you in advance! hlfrps Posted January 21, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 21, 2015 we have looked at this option for getting from Newport News, VA to New Jersey. Considering the costs of bus service (or train from NN to DC and/or driving to DC then taking bus), wait times, etc. we found that it was easy and more convenient to drive and park at the NJ port. Travel time was equal to having to fly to Florida considering getting to airport and layovers.

How much was it approximately to drive to NJ? How long did it take?
hlfrps Posted January 21, 2015 #4 Share Posted January 21, 2015 I believe total drive time is 6-7 hours, but we broke it up with either staying with family in Maryland, or casino in Dover or Atlantic City (both easy the next morning driving to the port) as part of beginning vacation. check out map quest and Cape Liberty, NJ. I believe parking is $19 per day. There were tolls but I think you can go around. Good luck
buckirj1 Posted January 21, 2015 #5 Share Posted January 21, 2015 I found this company on Royal Caribbean's website: https://www.enttours.com/destinations.aspx Hope it helps; it looks a little expensive to me, but YMMV.
