Hi!

Just off Quantum's 12 Nighter yesterday! Jimmy Rhodes as the Cruise Director was AWFUL, which is no surprise to most cruisers. His terrible speech patterns and diction. The only good thing about him was that he was pretty invisible for most of the cruise. It still baffles me how he ever got this ship!!!! His AM Katie is pretty horrid as well. Her wardrobe was just atrocious - it's like she has no mirror in her cabin. She just rambles when she talks, she never keeps to the theme of the activity but goes on and go about nothing!

The activities for this cruise were not very good. There were tons of trivia, but only sporadic activities for anyone else (I love trivia but not everyone does).

As for me, and the people I met and talked with, the majority disliked most of the shows, except for Momma Mia. I personally hated it, but I realized it that I'm in the minority there. Some cruisers liked MO5IAC (that's how they spell it) the a cappella group, but it was more of a novelty group than anything really entertaining. The 2 regular ship shows, Starwater and Sonic Odyssey are so bizarre and annoying, that they are simply a waste of an hour of your time. The singers and dancers are NOT at fault - they can only do so much with what they are given!!

No pool activities, no late night buffets, a few dance classes (4900 cruisers ?!?), Bingo in a room that proboably holds 300 at most, LOTS of spa clinics - fees neccesary after the free consulation seminar), Casino tournaments sporadically-all for a fee ), the WORST Meet and Mingle I have ever been to -It started 15 minutes late, and Katie ran around that awful room and made everyone say their screen name and she picked out the one she liked best and gave that one a prize. No Quest! There was very little opportunity to get to know each other, as you never got to dine with new people and join in games or onboard activities together.

There was music in a variety of clubs and venues at night, but it was ALWAYS the same. Salsa, piano bar, Rock-a-rocke, DJ, and EITHER Calypso or dance - EVERY night.

There were 1 or 2 decent staff members but they don't stand a chance with those two as leaders!!!

Royal Caribbean needs to take a long look at it's onboard activites. I'm glad I cancelled the Anthem.

I know others will disagree with me, but many will agree.

Sorry to ramble! - Miriam

Tell us how you really feel.:D Jimmy is off the ship for a while and has been replaced by Ken Rush who evokes strong feelings, either positive or negative, in many RCI passengers.

Were there any positives about the ship - food, special features, decor etc?

The decor of the ship is beautiful is many ways - The Via, The Royal Esplande, many features of 270 (especially the Robo screens), the restaurant themes decors with their gorgeous colors and furniture, and the cabins themselves are both tasteful and functional.

The Dynamic Dining was not a problem for me or my friends that were traveling with us. We especially enjoyed Coastal Kitchen (we were in a Suite), the Grande, and Chic. The service was excellent, the food was always hot and delicious and we rarely had to wait. One night there was a power failure in the galley and all dinners were put back by a 1/2 hour. They graciously served champagne and pushed back show times the same 1/2 hour, so they no one would feel rushed. If you didn't have reservations though, I did hear that you had to wait till a later hour to dine, or go to Windjammers for dinner. Chops was also wonderful, as usual, but most people on board stayed with the complimentary restaurants.

The Royal IQ worked 75% of the time but nobody minded when it didn't. They are working hard to get it right and it's not important to the enjoyment of the cruise. Those of us Diamond members know that they need time to work out the "kinks", like they had to on some features on other ships when they were new.

Entry into the rooms is very convenient with the new "smart" Set Sail pass, as well as using that card in your light switch. Without it there, you can't adjust your thermostat, or use your bathroom night lights. Our suite had 2 bathrooms, so my DH and I had 2 night lights and it was perfect for us.

THe balconies have padded chairs, which are very comfortable but the majority of the lounge chairs around the pool (they are brown) are the new stiff hard thin type - not very comfortable.

Pool towels were free - just grab and go, no more needing to use your Set Sail to put a deposit on them. The honor system worked well - everyone just dropped off the dirty or wet ones and grabbed a new one.

The new photo gallery, called FOCUS, is great. Just tap your smart Set Sail against the icon and up pops your photos. Pick which ones you want, and the way you want them (Digitally or in print), sign your name electronically and pick them up at the time the screen tells.

The TV in your room is very user friendly - walks you through whatever you need to do, order, review etc.

The only clock in the cabin is on the very tiny screen on the top of the phone. Completely unseeable unless you are 2 inches away from it!

6 elevators on each side of the ship in 2 different locations. So that 24 in all that go to all 16 decks. They are much quicker than other ships, even the Oasis and Allure. I won't spoil the theme of them - you'll have to wait and see. Everyone takes pictures in them!

Hopes this helps! - Miriam

Jimmy told us that RC had redefined his job as cruise director into more of an administrative position. Not sure if it's just for the Quantum or not but I'll find out in April on our next cruise.

I've enjoyed great CDs like Amy and Leigh but the CDs don't make or break my cruise. Same thing with the "entertainment" which is more times than not something I endure rather than enjoy. That was the case with Starwater and Sonic Odyssey, just not my cup of tea. Should've stayed in the Schooner:)

Thanks for this new, more positive, information. Too bad you hadn't included it along with the complaints that you itemized in your earlier post, as it seems to give a more complete picture of your cruise experience and to my mind at least raises the question as to why you would cancel your Anthem cruise. Most of your complaints seemed to have been about things (especially the lack of activities that you were looking for) that might be handled quite differently with a different CD on a different ship.:)
