Spending the day at Ft Lauderdale beach after cruise

I am planning on going to the beach in Ft Lauderdale after disembarking at Port Everglades since my flight leaves late at night and I have a couple of questions. Luggage, what should I do with it? Any place to store it? Which beach would you recommend? Cost of a taxi?

Most cruiselines have programs that you pay per bag to send your luggage to your domestic airplane from the ship. Otherwise, you can go to the airport and pay for luggage storage, then go to beach (you can't check in your bags until a couple of hrs before the flight).

 

Taxi from port to the beach will be about $10-15.

 

Go to Beachplace where there are bathrooms, bars, and restaurants. The beach is right across the street, so it's a good location to spend the day.

 

Taxi to airport will be about $20-25.

By the time you add up luggage fees and taxis, a one-day car rental with the bags in the trunk could be an attractive option.

I think it's $15/day to park in the Beach Place Garage. Parking meters at Ft Lauderdale Beach are $1-1.75, if you can find one. Some of them accept cash or credit card, and they all accept Pay By Phone (if you have an acct).
