shadbrew Posted February 5, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 5, 2015 Never sailed out of Seattle, so I would like some answers as to where are the best places to stay the night before the cruise (we always go one day early). Is it better/cheaper to stay out by SeaTac and take a taxi to the cruise port the day of the cruise? Or are there reasonably priced hotels closer to the cruise port? Any hotels with shuttles to/from airport or cruise port? How far is it from the cruise port to SeaTac airport? What are rates for taxis or are there shuttle buses? Sam.Seattle Posted February 5, 2015 #2 Share Posted February 5, 2015 Don't stay in SeaTac. You will miss the real vibe of Seattle! Stay downtown. Maybe the Edgewater, Sheraton or Mayflower. You won't be sorry!
westwood65 Posted February 5, 2015 #3 Share Posted February 5, 2015 We took that light rail from the airport to downtown. It was so simple and inexpensive. We got off about a block from our hotel the Seattle Westin. Found this location to be great as it was downtown close to the sights. Not a far cab ride to the pier for departure. alfaeric Posted February 5, 2015 #4 Share Posted February 5, 2015 We also took the light rail downtown to stay there. We also got a nice surprise in the morning when the hotel transferred us to the pier. Not exactly the cheapest place to stay, but we really enjoyed it. There's so much to do in Seattle, you should try to stay downtown.

Rare teacherman Posted February 6, 2015 #7 Share Posted February 6, 2015 We are sailing out of Seattle this coming July. We always try to "extend" our vacation by going early and doing things in the local area. We will be going into Seattle to spend 3 nights before the cruise. There are many things to see and experience in the Seattle area. Since it will be for 3 days, we are staying downtown at the Mayflower Hotel, which was highly recommended to me by other people on both Cruise Critic and TripAdvisor. I do not know what you consider to be a "reasonably" priced hotel. I find hotel prices in Seattle to be quite expensive, compared to other cities I have visited. It has the headquarters to many corporations, a university, and many cruisers in the summer. We booked our hotel months ago, and prepaid it in order to get a "lower" price. We also have trip insurance in case we can't go. If you are only going in for one night, you could stay at a lower price hotel near SEATAC, but as was said, you would miss the vibe of Seattle. You would also spend time commuting in and out on the light rail. If you have limited time, it is your decision: the convenience of staying downtown and being able to experience Seattle, or save some money and spend time commuting, rather than seeing. Either way, enjoy your visit and cruise.

cjankowski Posted February 6, 2015 #9 Share Posted February 6, 2015 We stayed at the Holiday Inn pre/post cruise. We enjoyed the location and enjoyed walking to the space needle for dinner. We did shuttle service that hotel recommend. There is a whole Alaska board with wonderful information under the Ports of Call - Alaska. You should be able to find lots of answers to many questions you may have. Enjoy your trip:)
alfaeric Posted February 6, 2015 #10 Share Posted February 6, 2015 Where do you catch the light rail from the airport to downtown? Where did you stay downtown? I'm not familiar with Seattle at all. Where is the cruise pier in relation to downtown? Where did you stay with complimentary transport to pier? We stayed at the Hotel Monaco. The shuttle we got in the morning was a rather nice surprise. May have been part of upgrades that we got for being loyal customers. The light rail has a station at the airport- it's a little bit of a walk, but easy to deal with. Cruisin' Along Posted February 6, 2015 #11 Share Posted February 6, 2015 We've enjoyed the Maxwell Hotel. It's just past the Space Needle. Cheaper than staying downtown and free, secure parking for those who drive. (Can't leave your car there while on the cruise, however.) It's in the quiet Queen Anne neighborhood, about a 20 minute walk to the Pike Place Market. They also run a shuttle to the downtown area.
alfaeric Posted February 6, 2015 #12 Share Posted February 6, 2015 Hopefully they let me link to the seattle light rail, which services the airport- http://www.soundtransit.org/Rider-Guide/Popular-destinations/Airport-service There are a number of stops downtown, so you'll have to look which one is closest to the hotel you choose- we had a couple of blocks to go. In theory, you can walk the waterfront to the port, but that's not realistic. And the port is in a restricted area. Two lines do port right downtown, but RCI or Celebrity. The Public Market is very much worth staying downtown- just to visit that. But there are great restaurants and bars to see, too.
NOSaints1 Posted February 7, 2015 #13 Share Posted February 7, 2015 What hotel is near the Boeing museum, were sailing on the Soltice. I know it's not RCI but it's still owned by Royal. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
