"Free" UBP as a booking perk

I'm sorry if this has been asked & answered already, I just couldn't find it.

We chose the "free" UBP as part of our recent booking. I know when you purchase the UBP on-board, gratuities are added into the price per day.......But if it is offered as a "free" booking perk, do we still need to pay the gratuities on the drinks we consume on-board?

Thanks, inquiring minds want to know :D

Is this confused with the advanced purchase of the UBP @ $54 a day - while the

onboard purchase of the program is $59 a day with a 15% gratuity added to both.

Then to complicate things if purchased in New Orleans the LA state sales tax ?

There may be other states with liquor tax laws such as Hawaii.

After putting up with all the mumbo jumbo I am ready for a drink - make mine a double !

Or simply put what part of FREE is not FREE - gratuities included ?

I have no idea what you are trying to ask here, or why taxes were brought up. The poster asked if she'd have to pay 15% gratuity, which is usually charged extra on top of the price of UBP, since she got it free. I answered no. That is the correct answer.

Also NO, you don't have to pay taxes on the purchase of UBP if you purchase it in advance. I don't know about the ship, because I've never purchased it on the ship. I've always purchased it in advance. I DO know that the increased price of the UBP when purchased on the ship has nothing to do with taxes. They simply give those who buy early a discount.
