Victoria '82 Posted February 13, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 13, 2015 Just a little concerned that the Britannia has no promenade deck and little deck space for sun lounging. I heard a roamer that there would be less than 1000 sun beds for the 3600 passengers on board! If this is the case, I can see a lot of early morning towels and books being left to reserve beds, and wonder how P&O will handle this. Guess it will be okay on port days, but days at sea, ummmmm fisticuffs come to mind.

If the same 1000 beds are on the Royal class for Princess it isnt as much an issue as the Yanks are not as sun obsessed as us Brits. We tend to sit out all day in it and bake, partly because we dont get that much sun bathing weather at home and most people like to go home nice and brown. In the UK more cabriolet cars are sold than in any other country in Europe. You would think France or Spain would be the top spot with better weather but one can only presume when you have much better weather for much of the year you dont need to grab every bit of sun including a drive with the top down to the supermarket. The Yanks are the same, many cruisers live in States with lots of sunshine and warm temps so they are not as bothered about baking solidly between 9 and 5. Rare Presto2 Posted February 14, 2015 #3 Share Posted February 14, 2015 That's why we booked a large aft balcony, expecting that we'd probably need somewhere to sit. We're not early risers on holiday so refuse to get up at the crack of dawn to get a sunbed.

The only trouble is, as with any balcony is that you are often not in the sun for much of the day, and thats not due to the overhang of the balcony above, more to do with the position of the ship and the sun. Hi, have been on the Silhouette in an aft balcony 3 times and loved it. Had to do a bit of moving around a lot to catch the sun, but managed and usually got the sun at some point. Hubby prefers the shade so we are hoping that the balcony we've booked will give us a mix of both ---- as long as they've sorted the ash issue (but that is another story!) :) Having said that we also like being right at the very front so that we can see the bridge. For the benefit of those who have not sailed Celebrity, passengers do not have pool towels provided in their cabins. Instead, pool butlers put rolled up towels on all sunbeds. If a used towel has been left unattended for a significant period it is removed and replaced by a new rolled up towel, signifying that the sunbed is now vacant. Any personal possessions, book etc, are also removed and kept in safe keeping until reclaimed. I have never known a sunbed problem on a Celebrity ship, unless you count Brits returning from a day ashore and being annoyed that other people are using "their" sunbeds - but the pool butlers give them very short shift! Another problem can be if you are sheltered from any wind, the balcony can be like an oven.

I'm a bit of a greenhouse 'flower' for want of a better term so am ok in the heat. Hubby retreats. :)

We've been with Celebrity 3 times mid August and they have the same problem as everyone else. Blue towels & empty beds everywhere. Perhaps it is better out of high season?
