Breakaway in March

We are in our 60's and have never cruised Norwegian, but are interested in the Breakaway from New York City to the Bahamas in March 2015. We usually cruise Princess and love that line, but there is something about the Breakaway that sounds intriguing. What do you do when you are in northern waters? We usually sit by the pool and read or relax but will probably not be able to do much of that. Are there plenty of lounge chairs by any indoor pools? Are there interesting activities planned since the outdoor pool is not an option? Do we need to make reservations for anything?

The only indoor pool on the BA is in the Haven if you have a Haven room or the pool type thing in the spa which requires either a spa pass or being booked in a spa room type.

We sailed that route last March 23 and the first and last day (rained last day) were too cold to really sit by the outside pool. The pool area was generally quite mobbed in terms of finding chairs but you can usually find one somewhere but it might not be by the pool.

Note that stopping at GSC is not a guaranteed thing - we missed it last year due to waves. While in ports the ship was fairly empty and we basically had the slides to ourselves.

Went the end of March last year and going again this year! Other than the first day, the weather was nice and we spent most of the time outdoors at the H2O area and walked over to the pool if/when we wanted to swim!;) But as you know; there's no guarantee regarding the weather!;) Maybe I'll see ya onboard!:)

We sailed the BA last March (same as dexdd) and going again in 32 days - excited and anything to get away from snow, ice & frigid weather lately. There are many places to sit, relax & hide publicly in plain sight. It was warm enough on day 2's afternoon to sit "outside" with hoodies or a nice fleece jacket, Uptown (Bar) & Grill - deck 16 MID - has nice comfortable & huge sofa chair that you can "sink" into with a good book, iPad, eReader or tablet with a pair of headset - snacks & sandwiches, etc. nearby & "bar" patrol to get your beverages (hint: those UBP would love it) and it was never crowded to us & especially in ports) Just above the Garden Cafe as we would sometimes grab a few items from the salad & dessert sections to bring it upstairs ourselves (it is enclosed & shielded from above - see pix below) Temp's was in the 70's by day 3 as we approach Port Canaveral for noon arrival - shower was forecasted but missed us. And, there's always un-occupied loungers available on deck 16 and 17 as the chair hogs are concentrated by the "small" adult & children pools area mostly.

** Checking BA's current locations and ShipCam, looks like they skipped GSC again this week & already docked @Nassau - folks would get an early start in the morning in spending the day on land. Some might be over at Atlantas resort by now & feeding those dollar slots :D to see if it's a lucky day (for who ... ) We made it to GSC twice and missed it twice - next month, TBA ... (as NCL has been making steady enhancements to their island & running large double-decker tenders that seat 200+ for the short rideover.)

It's a "big" ship but never felt crowded with 4,000+ sailing, except @ disembarkation time with long lines for rushing off, express & pull you own luggage - NOT us, we did promptly vacated our cabin just after 8 am so that our stateroom steward can do his turnaround - hanging out by the Shanghai Noodles Bar (closed) for a while ... not in a hurry to go home.

Thanks for starting this thread! We leave in just over 2 weeks and have never sailed in March. We always sail in the fall but this March is our 40th wedding anniversary and what better way to celebrate than a cruise! I have been wondering about the weather in March...how long it would be cold outside. After the winter we've had here in the Northeast, any temp over 50 will be welcome! And to not see snow for 7 days......:p

You can never predict mother nature......

Once in January when sailing from NY my DD and BFF were in the pools and hot tub on the first full sea day...(the captain said we had the best weather ever for January ). Once in June from NY we froze until second sea day. ..too windy for outdoor activities?...... You can never tell.......

Hope for the best, and enjoy no matter what

Safe sailing

If it's chilly, you can always sit in one of the hot tubs :D

For our anniversary in November, about 3 weeks before our cruise, we upgraded to a spa balcony for a minimal amount. This turned out to be the greatest idea ever. It was cold the first day .

The spa area has a large thermal pool, hot tub, sauna, & loads of heated loungers. Lemon water & herbal teas are available & I found it to be never crowded on our cruise. There are great views from the loungers & I did a lot of reading there myself. Here's a pic.
