Last day on Quantum..

Drink prices have increased. Last year I got a Pina Colatta on the Explorer for $9.75....last week on the Quantum is was $12.00. Seriously thinking of one of the drink packages for our July cruise.

Drinks packages are big gambles for Royal, while one passenger might not use the same equivalent every day on a drinks package, others may over use making the package a loss to them.

 

So you'll notice the drinks that people don't drink as much of (cocktails and wine) will be first the have price increases because these are the drinks that people don't get too the same equivalent amount, where as beer, it's better to sell that off without a package because people who drink beer are more likely to go over there package cost quicker.

It's not a gamble. They have it all figured out down to the penny. They don't gamble, they make money. It's like the Chinese buffet.....one guy eats for 10 people, one guy eats like a bird. In the end they make a profit

One man buys $100 worth of Pina Coladas in a day that cost Royal say $60 to make in total. He has the $55 a day package therefore gets them for $0.

Royal has spent $60 making the drinks but only got $55 back, so they made a loss.

 

Please tell me again how they made a profit on this mans drinks package?

If royal wasn't making money they would raise the price or stop selling the packages. I think it is very rare for them to lose out. If it costs them $3 to make a Pina Colada I would be shocked at how high it was.

It's very simple . They make a profit on the whole deal not just one person. It's like the casino...some win, more lose in the end they make a profit. If you cant understand that, sorry

You are a tad confused: Royal buys liquor in vast bulk, at substantial discounts. Their staffing is a set price, so the actual cost for them (much like with Casino Buffets) is very minimal; yet the $60 per-day drink packages, are guaranteed, upfront income.

 

The $12.00 retail priced drink, maybe costs them a total of just over a dollar+.

It still costs, it would never be $1 cost, even if you bought your liquor in bulk would you be able to get all the other ingredients in that cheap.

We have been on the Quantum twice just getting off the ship the 2nd time yesterday and both times we got the beverage packages. DH got the premium package and I got the Select package. For a 7 day cruise the cost was:

 

$49 X 7 = 343 + 51.45 (15% gratuity) = 394.45 - Premium

$35 X 7 = 245 + 36/75 (15% gratuity) = 281.75 - Select

 

There were NO other charges on our account for gratuities on qualifying beverages.

 

Pina Coladas were $12 a drink. At Devinly Decadent they used fresh ingredients and made a smoothly drink with or without the liquor.

We debated getting the Select package on our Quantum cruise because the wine prices, which is all alcohol we drink, were higher than on previous RCL cruises by a fair amount.

 

Instead we decided to buy whatever we wanted and then figure out what we spent per day for future reference. For us the average daily cost was $20 a day per person. That is all beverages that we paid for on the cruise.

 

Wine for lunch though not every day, wine for dinner every day and wine in the evenings, and an occasional specialty coffee or two.

 

I can't imagine drinking enough to make even the Select package worthwhile. And the Select package had a limit of $8 a glass. No way is this a deal.
