mousecrazy Posted September 2, 2005 #1 Share Posted September 2, 2005 We'll be in Juneau between Noon and 8:00 (Sept 12) and have scheduled Capt Larry's Whale Watching AND the Helicopter Icefield Landing. We had the option of doing the whale watching before or after the Helicopter tour. Is there any advantage to doing these two tours in any particular order? The early whale watching is at 1:00 with the second boat leaving around 3:30. If we do the 1:00 whale watching, then our Helicopter tour would be at 5:00. If we do the 3:30 whale watching, the helicopter tour would be before. Any opinions? Thanks.
Love Cruis'n Posted September 2, 2005 #2 Share Posted September 2, 2005 If your Helicopter excursion is via Coastal, then you can avoid some extra travel time to/from the ship, by having them coordinate your ground transportation. I did a Coastal helicopter trip to the glacier, followed by a Capt. Larry whale watch, and I was picked up at the Coastal office and delivered to Larry's dock, and thus saved having to travel by bus back to my ships dock area. Probably saved 30 - 45 minutes this way, all of it boring bus ride time. I hope that helps. :) PS - If interested, bring a small empty plastic water bottle to the glacier with you. Use it to bring up some of the glacial melt water found in the crevases on the glacier's surface. I drank it and it was wonderful (however, some other folks were concerned about bacteria)
Budget Queen Posted September 4, 2005 #3 Share Posted September 4, 2005 Yes I always recommend the combo booking for shuttle time savings. But I would book what is available?? It will be dusk around 7pm, so you may want to consider the earliest completion of both tours??
