Vasa Museum

Recommended Posts

Would you say visiting the Vasa Museum, Kon Tiki, etc. would be interesting for someone curious about the building of these old vessels? I didn't include this in my excursion because I thought my lack of interest in these vessels would be worth my busy day. Thanks

In Stockholm, the Vasa Museum is fabulous--I'm not a maritime museum junkie, but loved it.

In Oslo, we went to the Viking SHip Museum, Kon-Tiki Museum and Fram Museum (all are very close to each other) and thought they were excellent.

Here is a link to the Vasa Museum info page. Maybe it can help you decide if this museum is something that would interest you, or if you prefer to do something else.

north-bound,
Is it possible to take a taxi from the port to the Vasa museum. If so, do you have any idea of approximate cost. I don't know what this board would do without you. Thanks for all the information you so readily share.

First, the Vasa is a must! It's an incredible museum with all sorts of interesting exhibits in addition to the ship itself.

In Stockholm, as well as in Helsinki and Copenhagen, we got tickets for the hop-on, hop-off bus. It was great took us everywhere we wanted to go (and then some) so it was easy to go to the Vasa and then to see the other sights in Stockholm. Probably cheaper and easier than a taxi.

I was on Celebrity and they had a free shuttle bus that took us to the city center in Stockholm (about 10 minute ride from the ship) and we were able to get the hop-on, hop-off bus right there.

Have a great cruise!!

I think Celebrity is planning to charge for their shuttle buses this year. I bought the Stockholm card and will take either the T to central station and pick up bus # 47 to Vasa, or take bus # 46 to bus # 47. (The routes are shown in a map in the booklet that comes with the card.) The card allows for free admission to Vasa, Skansen, Royal Palace, city hall, etc.

I'm sorry to hear the Celebrity will be charging for the shuttle buses this year. We had them in Stockhom, Helsinki, and Tallin and they were a great service (everywhere else we didn't need them.)

It was a nice amenity.
