Emperor Norton Posted February 25, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 25, 2015 Does anyone know what the rules are with regards to children in taxis/hired cars in BC? My brother and sister-in-law will be joining us for a cruise and for the flight/ground transportation do not wish to bring baby seats (2 year old, and ~8 months). Will taxis/hired cars refuse to carry them and their children sans baby seats?
xlxo Posted February 25, 2015 #2 Share Posted February 25, 2015 (edited) You can call the taxi companies for their viewpoint to avoid surprises... here's Vancouver's. http://www.yellowcabonline.com/contact-us.php In general, taxi's have professional drivers and are train to drive safely. So they are exempt for required baby and booster like riding a public bus. However some parents want the added security of infant seats. You are free to bring such seats with you as it may be handy on the plane as well. http://vancouver.ca/police/organization/operations/traffic/traffic-services/taxi-team.html Q: I am a visitor to Vancouver. Does my infant / child have to be in a child restraint or booster seat when travelling in a taxi? A: The driver or operator of a taxi is exempt from the Child Seating and Restraint regulations under Section 36.09(b) of the MVAR. Langley Cruisers Posted February 26, 2015 #3 Share Posted February 26, 2015 (edited) Was in downtown Vancouver last week and watched a family pile into a cab - I'd say the kids were 2 years old and the baby was in a stroller. Cabbie took them, no car seats. Edited February 26, 2015 by Langley Cruisers
