Seeking help regarding traveling from Civitavecchia Italy to Rome on our cruise 29 Apr 2015. We would like to do this on our own. any help regarding trains and ect. would be greatly appreciated . We are cruising on the Vision of the Seas 26 Apr to 03 May 2015. Thank you

I have done Rome Civitavecchia. This year going Civitavecchia Rome like you so not actually done it yet.

 

Easy as pie last year. Train was empty. Low boarding so easy to cart the cases on but steps in carriage. Lovely views.

 

Cost about 4 euros but not from Termini. Joined later but can't remember name. Sorry. Would look it up but not at home. Won't be a lot more as trains very cheap.

 

Planning on taxi to station from boat. Shout at man in ticket office and wave arms about :confused: Duo. Duo. I will brush up my Italian.

 

We are there June.

 

Also, just to add, if you go on trenitalia site you can get some idea of the times if you look at a date within seven days. Local trains do not need booking. Seven days and the tickets are up for sale. Very frequent. When we arrived the cafe was full of disembarking cruise passengers. Needed wellies to wade through the puddles of tears.

 

Do not go on raileurope. Ever ever ever.

It is about 0.4 miles from the entrance to the port to the train station.

They have, apparently, moved the exit. Took a good six or seven minutes in the taxi.

 

I had read about the gate on here so took a taxi. That and the heat that day.

The walk from the main port gate (by the little castle) to the station is ten minutes, I don't know whether the works in the port will have been completed by the time you cruise or it will still be the current temporary gate, which is 10-15 minutes further (or a bus or taxi ride).

We took the train to Rome--it was fairly easy but crowded that day. The walk from port was about 10 minutes; there are several sets of stairs, one to get up to the terminal, another after getting tickets (unless you are lucky enough to get the train leaving right by the ticket office--we weren't).

 

Be sure to validate your tickets in the yellow box before boarding. It was so crowded that at first we had to stand with our luggage in the space between cars, but after a stop or two it thinned out and we got a seat.

 

We were in our mid sixties at the time, and in decent shape--we would do it again. This was several years ago, so take that into consideration.

 

Otherwise, there are several car services that work well too. We have used Bob's Limo several times for trips to/from the airport and port or Rome and the airport.
