I am going to rebook my current reservation today..I have a suite on the star next February. The rebook will cost me 600$ more.. And my OBC will drop from 300$ to $200. What I will get is UDP, UBP, and paid gratuities. We arent huge drinkers but have a few a day...I might drink more though knowing I can.... So this seems like a better deal to me even with the OBC going down.. just want to make sure there isnt something Im forgetting...

Thanks!!

Probably would not be worth it for me. You are losing $700 on the rebook, so you'd have to eat and drink $700 worth ( minus the DSC amount ) to just break even. We would never drink the roughly 5 or 6 drinks each daily to hit the break even point on a drinks package. We always dine a few nights in the buffet, O'Sheehans, and MDR or dinner show, so we save money by just paying as we go for the specialty restaurants on 2 or 3 nights.

$700 buys a lot of drinks and specialty meals. But if you think you would exceed that on your own, then go for it! I don't see any other problem with doing this.

Is this a 7 day cruise on the Star? If so the DSC is $181.30, UDP is $238 (assuming you are not Platinum - if so it's $198), Assuming you each drink 3 drinks a day - round the cost to $60 per day or $420. (Value is not the total cost of the UBP if you would never purchase it or drink enough to max it out IMHO) So you are gaining $838.30 and losing ($600 + $100 OBC) $700.

Yes a 7 day. Thanks for breaking it down like that. I think I will do it.. this puts me around 150$ ahead.. and although without a promo I dont think I would pay for the UBP but we def drink at least 3 a piece a day ..but knowing I have it we will probably drink more..

Thank you!!

Sounds like you'll still be ahead. What I'll use my OBC for is to purchase the drink package, but since you'll get the package any way, the extra $200 can be spent on something else fun. I'm looking at booking NCL right now, I can't believe the deal they have right now...Especially if you book a suite, to get all that is awesome. And it doesn't seem like the base rate for the stateroom has been inflated to accommodate the deals. Nice.

DSC is $209.30 for two people in a suite ($14.95 per day, not $12.95).

We had the promo for our suite on the Dawn in January (old prices). I found it was easy to have at least three drinks per day, especially when adding in a beer or glass of wine with dinner and, I'm afraid to say, I got hooked on a Bloody Mary in the morning, too! Plus we ate at a specialty restaurant every night and, in fact, on one occasion, had appetizers in one and entrees later that same night in another.

Poolside fru-fru drinks both alcoholic and virgin, plus a beverage or three while playing in the casino or taking part in the trivia and it soon adds up.

Having the UDP and UBP changes your thinking and you're far more likely to try something different, knowing it's not adding $10-12 to your shipboard account. I found I was trying the specialty cocktails in the restaurants and even the Sake in the asian one.

It's surprising how easy it is to take advantage of the freebies - and I normally don't drink, but I never ever got drunk!!

But, if you do not dine in a specialty every single night, then you are leaving money on the table. If you eat at Cagneys 7 nights, then you are way ahead. I did a calculation based on what we might eat and drink left to our own devices, and including the free DSC, we might save $41 going with this deal. Maybe a little more, cause I think we could drink more than 3 drinks each daily;).

Yes!! I feel the same way...we just cruised a couple weeks ago and I told my hubby..IF we had the UBP I would have been having mimosas in the morning and wine with each meal ...would be nice not to have to think about it.. when youre paying for each drink it does make a difference.

He is paying $600 more to rebook and with less OBC, so the base rate IS more. Do you think NCL is giving us low cruise fares AND hundreds of $$ in promos as well?

Sure you'll be "coming out ahead" if you were planning on getting all the perks anyway with your original booking. But if you say you aren't a big drinker then it may not be worth it to rebook. Instead, take some of that extra $600 that you'll be saving by not booking and use X amount of it to by Y drinks over the course of your week.

Obviously, it's whatever you'll be happy with and whatever you think is best for you. Personally, for me, it would not be worth it because I never get the UBP or UDP and have wonderful cruises without it. Therefore, I would never want to pay more just to have it "included." I'd rather spend the money on something else. Fortunately, my cruise went down in price AND I got to snag the UDP so I will be enjoying it. Maybe I'll be a changed man for future cruises afterwards :D.

If you don't buy photos or trinkets in the duty free stores, may I suggest you buy a Freestyle Cruise Reward with $150 of your OBC? That way Norwegian is actually paying for all of your $250 future deposit and you only have to add more if in an "upper suite". I bought 4 of them with "their money" on our Gem cruise last week.

The base fare has been the same for quite awhile now..like months.. I booked over a year ago because I wanted a certain cabin. I dont know if it going up is because of the promos or not..last month was a good promo too.

Either way if you are happy with the price and the promo its a win/win

Yes! We have talked about doing this. We have always been on a tight budget in the past and have never done this. We are planning on it this next time! Im glad to know you can use it as your full deposit on all but the "upper suite".

I agree. I had the UBP for my husband and he got his money's worth with the drinks the way you broke it down. I had the Royal Replinish and it was a total waste. I drink more off DH's package than my own (he has a unisex name and well, yeah, I used his card ... ALOT). Still even if it had been just him using it, we came out ahead on what we paid for it.

And our kids are on their own now so its just us!! Just because of that we will drink more!! No worries of keeping track of anyone but us!!

I'm basing this on NCL rates vs. RCL. I'm booked on the BOS in a D1 Balcony with $200 OBC and paid gratuities. I priced the comparable stateroom on NCL for the same itinerary, some time-frame, and it was $600 less and I can choose one: either $200 OBC, UBP or UDP. However, if I use that $600 savings and apply it to a NCL suite, I get all three deals and have paid no more money that what I have booked now. So yes, I think NCL has not inflated their base rates in comparison to RCL.

The OP booked before March 1, so their DSC is $12/day ($168 for the week) if they pre-pay it anytime before sailing. That is the amount they would avoid paying by rebooking now with the promo. Anyway, on paper, they still come out ahead by rebooking. The question is whether they will enjoy the UBP and UDP enough to make it worthwhile.

I think after looking at everything it definitely is worth finding out!! Do they still list all your drinks on your bill and your dining.. you know so you can see just how much you would have spent??

I hope I'm not being too annoying with all my noob questions... but what is DSC? I was trying to find it on my own without asking, but yeah, I'm just going to ask. Thanks!

I did the same thing for our cruise in October, which had gone up almost $1000. Even though we would have gotten all of the offers since we're in a suite, we still wouldn't have come out ahead.

I thought it had to be prepaid prior to March 1.
