What is the nicest thing a RCI crew member has ever done for you?

Recommended Posts

We were on the Allure in August for our 39th anniversary. While we got off the ship in port the 3rd. day, our cabin steward decorated our room and left us a bottle of wine and a small box of chocolates.

The same thing happened to us on the enchantment for our 25th anniversary when we returned from dinner he decorated the room and left a bottle of wine and petit four cakes and he received a very nice tip.

On our last cruise, aboard Liberty OTS, we had the most amazing bar tender (in the middle below) called Anna.

Each night my partner Tommy and I would go to the Viking Crown, at 19:00, for a cocktail before dinner. I always had a martini, and Tommy always had a bellini - and we tried to sit in the same seats (great view over the ship).

After the first day she knew our names, after the second day she knew our drinks.

On the third day we walked into the Viking Crown and our table was roped off, our drinks were on the table and a little sign 'Reserved for Tom & Tommy'.

Needless to say she got a MASSIVE tip. One of my best memories.

On our last cruise on Freedom, our Assistant Waiter gave all the ladies little roses that he handmade. I'm not sure of the material that they were made out of, it wasn't plain paper...it was something else. He said he likes to sit and make them at night because they remind him of home. It just puts it in perspective when you hear things like that. It touched me and was such a wonderful souvenir to have. You can't put a price on something like that.

Also, we were on Enchantment when Prince William and Kate got married. The ship allowed anyone wishing to, to renew their wedding vows free of charge and they gave out nice certificates to commemerate the day. I was not married at the time and couldn't partake, but I thought that was a lovely gesture for them to do that at no charge to give people a beautiful, unexpected memory.

Lastly, also on our Freedom cruise...our room steward was nice...but not "wow" and wasn't into personal conversation much. We love to connect with our room stewards since we are spending the week with them. We ended up having a great week because of the room steward down the hall. He was always waiting to see us and crack a joke. We couldn't wait to round the corner to see him and see what he was going to be up to. At the end of the trip, I emailed RC to sing his praises...he truly made it a great week for us!

I can't remember the ship (MARINER?) and for a while our A/C just wasn't working. Our room steward gifted both of us with little foldable fans. Like a geisha would use. (Not battery operated). THey were pretty and we used them a lot on that trip. Now they got on every cruise with us.

I love Indian food and eat it regularly here as we have MANY Indian restaurants in Plano, due to the high tech environment here (Texas Instruments, HP, MacAfee etc etc). So we have a large Indian population working the high tech industry here. I happened to be chatting to my (Indian)waiter. Now I know they have Indian food in the crew mess and they were having my favorite, aloo gobi, the next day and he said they'd bring me some. However, we were eating in a specialty restaurant that next day, as well as the next. Lo and behold 2 night later, in addition to what I ordered, my friend and I had a VERY VERY deliciously spicy aloo gobi w/ all the trimmings. The head waiter came by and he and my waiter told me the assistant waiter made if for us. That he used to be a cook so he made it just for us. Let me tell you people at the tables near us were asking "What is that and can I get some?" But only we got it. I was impressed, touched and they got WOW's as well as an extra something at the end of the cruise.

PS: Best aloo gobi EVER.

I have asked a few times for real Indian food. Its always the best food all week. imo

On our Freedom cruise last year we had MTD dining, but we had the same waiter and asst. every night. On one of the nights we decided to eat with some friends and the asst. waiter saw us across the room and came over and said he'd really missed us that night and told our friends that we were great people and they were lucky to have us as friends. It made us feel really special.

I also appreciate little things like when we get towel animals.

We enjoy all of the little things that just make us feel noticed.

This sounds just like Biju (from India) and Victor (from Dominican Republic) we just had on Serenade. Hubby and I were part of a group and all but us went to the Mystery Dinner one night. Since it was just the 2 of us we were seated at a 2 top. Both stopped by our table and commented how much they missed us at dinner that night and was anxious for all of us to be back the next night. We were a "lively" group.

I was 21 at the time and the casino manager was interested in me. I had a boyfriend at the time, now my husband, I made it clear in a polite way that 1. I had a boyfriend back home that I was very much committed to 2. my father was on the ship. 21 or not, dad paid for my ticket, so dad made the rules. He was a nice guy and respected that. I still got every drink on the house :D

Just off the Freedom and we had the best waiter and assistant waiter, but the guy (Richard) taking the drink orders was exceptional. I had a few of the shooter glasses as well as the 2 long stem martini glasses from a previous cruise and was hoping to get some more of each. However after reading these boards, it appeared that RCI was not offering these anymore. I asked Richard if it was possible to get either one of these glasses, and he replied he would check for me. Well the next night after dinner he brought 4 shooters to our table in the stemmed shooter glasses, and continued to do this for the next 3 nights. The last night he brought me one shooter glass, not the stemmed kind, but the one with a ball at the end. Never seen that before. But that was not all. He was also able to locate 2 long stemmed martini glasses for me. Knowing how fragile the glass part is, he wrapped them in paper and placed each one in a separate box.

While I don't care for a lot of the decisions made at the corporate level, it is people like Richard (and others) that will keep me going back to Royal.

Free cabana.:)

I like that! I would say being upgraded from a Nellies Beach Cabana to a Barefoot Beach Cabana with even asking! We got the Gold wrist bands and had full access and perks at Barefoot Beach!

We have really appreciated all of the RCI crew members we've encountered through our cruises--all seem to be wonderfully attentive, helpful, and genuinely kind people!

We were on the Serenade a few years back and our camera broke. We happened to mention this in front of the concierge (Kenneth) and he loaned us his camera to take out in port. We returned it that evening and he had prints for us by the next day! :) So nice!

I had one of those drinks in a souvenier glass in I believe it was the comedy club and one of the crew members came by and asked if she could clean my glass for me and bring it back. I said sure and thank you. We waited and waited and she never came back. We gave up and went on to the casino because we decied it wasn't worth waiting anymore. About an hour or so later I felt a tap on my shoulder and turn around and it was the same crew member and she has a different glass in her hand. She said that she broke mine while cleaning it and had gone looking for another one just like it to replace it and that was what took so long. Then she had taken the time to look through the ship to find me. I was in shock that she had done something so nice. That was my very first cruise on Explorer of the Seas. I will never forget that. :)

Our family, a group of 8, just came from an IOS 5-night Western Caribbean cruise and our MDR waiters really got on well with my parents. Our waiters were Filipinos as are we. I'm not sure how it came about, but I think my dad was being nostalgic and was joking about how it's a shame they didn't serve Filipino food there. Next thing I knew, our head waiter wanted to know what our favorite dish was and he can have it ready on "Specials" night which we understood to be lobster night. I asked if he was kidding and he kept saying no so we played along and said we wanted "kare kare" which is a traditional food in my country with beef, bok choy and string beans, in a peanut sauce base. The following night, there it was! He wasn't kidding after all and my parents were very appreciative and equally delighted!!

On our recent 4 night Enchantment of the Seas cruise, one of the appetizers the waiter recommended was a shrimp cocktail. My 10 year old son told the waiter his favorite food in the whole world was fried shrimp but he hadn't seen any yet at the buffet or anywhere else. For that night and every night after, our waiter had the kitchen make up a plate of fried shrimp just for my son. It was the highlight of his cruise.

We have had amazing staff on every cruise - I guess that's why we're loyal! Our son remembers the dining room staff from our first cruise in 2008 on FOS - Sorab & Enderson.

In November 2014 on our TA on IOS our dining room team Pedro & Vincente along with Head Waiter Suraj and beverages waiter Sachin made our cruise, and my parents' first ever cruise. Pedro knew we liked crumble & one nite when we decided to eat in our room, he sent up crumble from the dining room so we wouldn't miss out. Hoping to catch Vincente on Anthem later this year.

On the Grandeur two years ago we were having problems with our keys not working. On my third trip to the pursers desk the assistant purser fixed the key and gave me her card and told me to call if I needed anything at all. Then she told me that our two boys were some of the nicest and most polite children that she had seen in a long time. I mentioned that it was my oldest sons 13th birthday.

The next day when we got back to the room there was an invitation to a bridge tour for the family. The day after that we came back to our room (connecting insides) and his side was decorated beautifully for his birthday and there was a bottle of Champagne on my side. The day after that we received an invitation to tour the computer room that runs the engine room.

TALK ABOUT WOW.

On the transatlantic crossing on the Independence last year, I was making my way down the stairs from the windjammer with my auntie and I stopped to clean my glasses and as I did so, one of the screws from the arm popped out and fell on the floor.

I went into complete panic as we were in the middle of the Atlantic ocean and I stupidly hadn't thought to bring a spare pair and I wasn't sure what I was going to do. Anyway, a crew member stopped (who I later found out was the head cleaner) stopped and asked what was wrong and we explained, so he and my Auntie (I couldn't see a thing) went and looked for the tiny screw on the stairs.

Eventually after a few minutes of looking they managed to locate it and then the crew member took the screw and my glasses away and managed to fix them for me before returning them to me. Probably seems like a small thing but it meant a lot to me as I was so scared that I would have to spend the next couple of days we had at sea not being able to see or really do anything!

True story- we met after he taught my dad and brother how to play Caribbean Stud, talked all cruise, started Skyping after he got off the ship, he came to visit me, found a great job in my city, and only left to go back home to pick up his work Visa. We got married last year and honeymooned on Independence [emoji3]

Love hearing all these stories! I had some excellent staff when I did my 2008 Mariner B2B, but I love the story my BIL always shares so I will share that.

He had managed to get about a case of beer onto the ships years ago, cleaned out the fridge and had asked the roo. Steward where he could get a bucket of ice. He was provided the bucket of ice right away so he could cool down to beers to enjoy and every day after whenever they returned to their room in the afternoon there was 2 beers on ice.

Many years ago while cruising on RC ship, don't even remember which one, in

the dining room, I put my camera next to me on my chair...it fell and hit the

bottom of the chair and cracked. While talking about it, our waiter took it all in.

In the next day while in port, the waiter went ashore and bought some super

glue, took my camera from me at the table the next night...fixed it and returned it to me.

We were flabbergasted that he was so thoughtful.

It wasn't any one specific thing...but when we took our kids on Serenade of the Seas to Alaska, they treated them like mini royalty, day in and day out. After our first dinner in the MDR, the waiter would immediately bring my then 8 year old son a pepperoni pizza within moments of us sitting down, and my then 3 year old daughter her favorite chicken strips and fries...that way they weren't "forced" to wait through the ordering process before eating. And the waiter always graciously and quietly asked me if it was OK to offer them ice cream BEFORE he asked the kids if they wanted any. As you know...sugar before bedtime is not always a good thing!

On any given day, a random staff member would often stop if we were just sitting at a table on deck and make my daughter a little origami animal out of a towel, or a piece of paper. We have pictures of my daughter with a sweet man from the Philippines who one day made her a complete Statue of Liberty crown and torch!

The naturalist on board spent almost thirty minutes patiently answering my son every single question under the sun about bears. He happened to be standing next to him and overheard him ask me a question I didn't know the answer to.

We used the in room babysitting three times and used the same lovely girl from Jamaica who would bring a giant duffle bag filled with puzzles, games, and a travel DVD player with movies, etc. If I could have smuggled her home with me, I would have.

Honestly, the constant kindness and goings out of their way for our kids is too extensive to describe.

My kids were literally heart broken to leave the ship. And to this day...six years later...they still ask to go back on "our" ship.
